.223 1:9 Twist Rate
Hi Everyone, I'm pretty new to the centerfire game. I've got a few 30-30's plenty of shotguns, and rimfires.... but I'd like to start playing around with something more accurate and fun. I'm considering a .223 bolt action model 700 with a 20 barrel. I see that it has a 1:9 twist rate. What bullet we...

I Live just north of Milwaukee (Ozaukee co) and i have a Great Dane. He's a big boy. We live in the suburbs. One night we went out to go (my dog) go pee. A coyote was across the street. He snarled and paced back and forth while we were out. My pup is 3 times his weight and the coyote wasn't scared. ...

I just bought a 317 on bullseye's advice. I needed to defend myself against rabid rabbits in the woods. Even though this one is a 3 inch barrel, it sure is easy to carry. Congrats, you picked the perfect back-up gun. It will still fire pressed into something's ribs, unlike the autoloaders. I like re...

1911 Opinions, I know you've got em'
I've been a shooter for years, mostly trap; but now I've got 3 good .22 handguns. I'm getting to the point where I can always hit the black at 25 yards and can usually hit a balloon at 100(try it, it's fun!). We've got an election coming soon here in Wisconsin; I think the Democratic Govenor's Candi...

Knock on wood!
As of today, my modified Ruger MKIII has gone through 6 boxes of Federal bulk (3,300) rounds without a single problem. Nothing. Not a fail to fire, fail to eject, bolt has held open after every spent magazine, no stovepipes. Absolutely perfect performance & reliability for over 3000 rounds. That is ...

Thanks for the help
I purchased a 317 today. I hope it's a shooter. Seems like they get mixed reviews.

I just got a new pistol!
It's a High Standard Model C.
Made somewhere between 1939-1942!
It's in great shape. I'm hoping to pick it up this weekend.
Darn 48 hour waiting period for a 22 short pistol...

This is how S&W measure barrels: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4045/4352913676_e5e4499fc1.jpg This is how Wisconsin does it: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4066/4352913696_51ff5929fc.jpg WDNR Regulations: "It is illegal to: hunt with a handgun with a barrel length shorter than 4 inches measured fro...

the 317 is available with either a 2" (1 7/8") or a 3" bbl according to S&W specs.... It's definitely not going to make it to a 4" bbl... sorry.. I need at least a 4" breech to crown, so a 3" from cylinder to crown might work. Basically, under WI hunting law, cylinder (or chamber) counts as barrel ...

You guys are so helpful! I think I'm going to recant my statement about the length of the 317 barrel. It looks like from crown to breech it is 4.5 inches. I will measure one myself. The S&W guys must be wrong. 12 oz is hard to pass up for a full featured DA. http://www.smith-wesson.com/wcsstore/SmWe...

Bearcat
Thanks,
The bearcat might be okay. I don't mind DA or SA.
It's still bigger/heavier than my ideal.
