Jack is certainly our .22 LR champion, but I agree with Hak. A .22 firearm has a reduced reliability that the bullet will actually chamber and fire when you need it most. At least with a revolver, like mine or Jack's LCR-22, a fail to fire is the main concern and you can just pull the trigger again...

Personally, the only reason I am hesitant on carrying a 22lr for SD is the reliability of the round firing and feeding properly. The last thing you want is for the round not to ignite, or a feeding problem, which 22's have a higher frequency of. With that said, I do carry my Bobcat with CCI Velocit...

A real report on what a .22 lr can do. If one can do this what can 5, 6, or 7 do? Admittedly, the victim was not dressed in heavy clothing, but still.....

Yesterday, I fired another ~180 rounds in the LCR 22 using the laser grip. I know some don't like lasers, but I find it far easier to use than sights on my handguns. I have them "0'd" at 40' and at anyting closer than this the bullet just goes where the red spot is. I can't focus on the sights, but ...

Are those aimed shots? No time for aiming in an SD situation, more like shooting a shotgun. Laser aimed.....yes. Not sighted with sights. I practice maybe 100 rounds/week average. At least I did until the ammo shortage. I can put 10 rounds with my SR22 in a 6" circle, using the laser, in two second...

There's one thing about a .22LR that I rarely see mentioned. And that is the fact that you can get off many more shots from a .22 than with a larger cal. gun due to the light recoil. What this means to me is that if you can get of 10 rounds in a .22 lr for every two of a .45, then you have five time...

It's a toss-up between my LCR 22 and my SR 22. Both area a blast to shoot. The SR22 is more accurate...due to the adjustable sights. Both have lasers for close-up fun.

Interesting conversation on sequestration. Maybe it's time to demand that our elected reps get serious about waste fraud and abuse.
Way past time, IMO. Been going on for as long as I can remember. That's a long time, but getting shorter all the time. Make sense?

="bearandoldman Try 2.3 grains of TrailBoss, shoot them in my Marlin 1894C and they are great at 25 yards, have never been able to get them on the paper at 50, they might be hitting the ground before they get there. That HBWC bullet is not a very efficient flier.. 50 yards is my longest range here ...

Jack, it's been a fun project. Things like this happen when you have excess time on your hands. It's a fun gun to shoot, too. Short makes for fast handling and easy carrying. It is really a versatile rifle for anything from small game to deer and maybe even bigger game (black bear?). I can hand load...

Not my area I'm talking about. I'm referring to the military bases that cancelled the firewarks displays for military folks and their families. I'm way past my Navy days by about 50 years.

I get really frustrated and a bit angry that they cancelled fireworks displays at military bases this year citing sequestration. I have no doubt they could find somewhere else to cut, but chose the most visable for political reasons. The big wigs party on our dollars then cancel the vets Independenc...

Ammo of any kind is almost non-existant here with the exception of .17 and some shotgun. Powder is a thing of the past. None to be found. I have found a few primers, but they will only sell me 100 at a time.

Will it ( the hoarding) ever end?

Home defense is a bit different. I put my SP101, .357 near the bed (concealed) and my LCR22 is hidden at the other end of the house so that no one can get between me and a gun. Depending on the situation, if time allows, I would get something bigger from the safe. In my home, is where I feel most vu...

I loaded up a bunch of these Lee cast bullets with gas checks to fire in my 16.5" barrel H&R Handi. The load was Mag case, SRP, 20 gr. IMR4227, and 158 gr. cast bullet w/GC. I fired about 50 rounds and found them to be accurate (80-100 yards) and no leading is seen in the barrel. The lead is salvage...
