Re: Barrel Seasoning?

First off you really don't want to shoot your barrel with any oil, or lubricants in it. Oils are just used for storage to protect the barrel from corrosion. I usually run a clean dry patch down the barrel before any shooting begins. Lots of today's gun lubricants have small amounts Teflon (or PTFE) ...

Re: Barrel Seasoning?

Forging a new stainless barrel can leave slight tooling marks inside which can cause minor lead build-up when fired. The idea behind all the cleanings is to clean out those minor mineral deposits before they become major ones. .22 is a relatively soft lead nosed bullet and because it is not jacketed...

Re: The new Ruger Mark IV Target and Hunter

I hope you get many years of enjoyment out of your new .22 Rugers. You may not have needed two different models but at least you can compare the later version fairly against the earlier model. This new edition is significantly different from its predecessors in the style and maintenance procedures. ...

Re: Election Day

I'm looking forward to the drought of .22 ammo to cease. Hopefully the post-election slum at the stores will allow ammo stocks to recover sufficiently for the price to dip once again.

Re: Forum Registrations Suspended

It has been nearly a month now since I suspended any new membership registrations on the forum. The main benefit I have noticed is not having to log in everyday just to clear out all the bogus registration attempts, which also makes my server host company very happy too. Prior to that, I was only se...

Re: Election Day

The new President-elect Trump just gave his acceptance speech; the nation dodged a serious bullet last night. What is also fortunate is it looks as if he will also have majorities in both the House and the Senate. With Supreme Court positions that will be filled during his presidency the rule of Law...

That's funny. It does tend to look a bit like earwax when cleaned off.

Re: Bolt Action 22

For something a bit more challenging try spent .45 cases as targets. I've even shot them off the tops of bowling pins with the goal of not disturbing the pin in the process. Fastest one to clear the tops of five pins without knocking any over wins!

I agree with you George. I have met a lot of interesting people over the years just by helping them through the maintenance process with their Ruger pistols.
