Rem Bolt Handle Saga

This week I got a real education about the Remington 700 bolt handle. A customer called and told me that he had dropped his rifle - and the bolt handle popped off. Apparently this is not an unusual circumstance... Before I ever got my shop open, another fellow here had the same thing happen. This - ...

Re: Falling in with bad company

Taylors guns look pretty good. Lately I've been looking at the Cimarron 1885 low-wall rifles. They are well finished, can be had with double-set triggers and are offered in a number of BP era pistol cartridges. - I'm thinking maybe a 32-20. http://www.cimarron-firearms.com/media/catalog/product/cach...

I took the Howa out to shoot a bit. First I fired some cheap Federal Blue label factory .223 loads with 55 grain bullets. Typical three-shot groups at 100 yards would be two in the same hole, with another hole about 3/4" off to the side. Then I got out my carefully assembled target reloads using 68 ...

Well, it seems like precision to my son and I... It's about the best that we can do on our budget. I have been privileged to shoot the real thing though, a 30 pound benchrest gun that was astoundingly accurate, in a class by itself. The trigger for the Howa 1500 that I ordered from Brownells was del...

Mannlicher-Schoenauer brush gun

I have always wanted to try out a Mannlicher-Schoenauer but gee those things are pricey in any kind of shape. But at the annual gun show here, I found a converted military MS that looked OK and was not out of my price range. It has a few deficiencies but I decided to try to work around all that. Cli...

Now instead of the cowboy with the H-bomb, it's a color picture of an aoudad sheep. I rarely see them here but if I go outside at night, a lot of times I can hear them baaa'ing at each other, and my neighbors geese going nuts when they and their mule deer buddies come down into town to eat the water...

It's supposed to come pre-set at one pound. - I'll probably just leave it at that, more or less at the middle of its adjustment range. It's a bench gun, highly unlikely to ever be shot in the field. My son and I get into competitions to see how few holes we can wind up with at 100 yards, with five r...

Howa 1500

I have been curious about the Howa rifle action for some time, having read that it was originally a Sako design. It has a flat bottom like a Mauser or model 70, with the 3 position sliding safety off to the side, like a Mark X Mauser. The other day I found a used Howa in .223 that had a 24" bull bar...

I've never fired a Beretta 92. I did find out though that the Cougar is a Beretta design that was superseded by another new model. Beretta did market the Cougar for a while, but it was old-school compared to the newer designs so they dropped it from their line. The tooling was sold to the Turkish ma...

Stoeger Cougar

Looking for an inexpensive carry gun, I bought a Stoeger Cougar in .40 S&W today. That happened 30 odd miles from me, and WDBJ is about a mile from my house. At least the woman reporter's father had a carefully worded statement, about doing more to keep crazy people from getting guns, but not restricting other's gun rights. The Hildabeast was the first presidential candidate to ...

I've been interested in rust bluing for a while, and intend to get my feet wet with it on an old 98 Mauser that I must re-barrel.

I haven't read about the cold rust bluing, the stuff that I've looked at requires a steam box.

Thanks for the link!
