I am concerned about seconds, firearms with flaws making their way to the online sales and auction sites. Once I sold a scope on an auction site, and the buyer was effusive with praise, simply because the scope that I sold him was exactly as I had described it online. - Apparently he had halfway exp...

I've been dubious about Colt for some time. They have dropped most of the models that they were famous for, and have exclusive rights to build - in favor of two models (1911 and AR-15) that everybody and his dog is manufacturing - cheaper and in many cases, better. The Trooper MkIII, the Python and ...

I'm still looking at single action army clones, leaning toward the EMF 'Alchemista II' in .357 mag with 4 3/4" barrel, or the Cimmaron model P in 32-20 with the 5 1/2" barrel. I'm so undecided on these two that I may have to get both. The Alchemista II is a much nicer gun, but then again, I've alway...

Open Carry in Texas a Go
So, it looks like open carry in Texas is a done deal, now. If you have a concealed-carry license, you have the option of open carry. The general consensus though is that most will stick to concealed carry, but not worry about it if some little old lady sees your rig while you are reaching for your w...

I finally got out to the shooting range, and sighted in the MkIII Hunter with it's new blade front sight and square notch rear sight. After it was sighted in, I blew through 50 rounds plinking at small stones, empty shotgun hulls, and I even took a few shots at the steel silhouettes at 100 yards. Th...

I'm hoping to get out and adjust the sights on the Mk III Hunter today, in-between rain showers. Oddly enough, the summer is the rainy season in West Texas. - We had a rainy winter though this year, so spring has been magnificent... All of the plants and critters breeding like mad, the desert green....

The new sight blades came in today. I was pretty sure that the narrow notch model would be best - and it was, but I ordered the wide one too so it and my old V-notch went into my sight box. I'm using the front sight from a Marlin model 60 22lr autoloader. It swaps out directly with the original Ruge...

You have to send it, or have it sent to Magna-Port. Best thing is to phone the Magna-Port folks, and follow their suggestions. I had a rifle in .300 Winchester magnum Magna-Ported... It had zero effect upon accuracy, but it sure did cut down on the recoil. I wouldn't want to shoot a 44 mag without h...

Well, actually I'm trying to sell the Savage right now to finance another project. It's a good rifle, but my resources are limited and I'm wanting to finish a long-term project that I've been procrastinating about, for a couple of years, now. Also, my 1885 Winchester shooting reduced loads does what...

New Gunsmith's Shop
All of business stuff looks to be going well... I got just about everything but the FFL nailed down today. My son and I were tired after all of the running around today, and decided to hold off on applying for the FFL until next week. I have all of the forms, and will fill them out over the weekend....

It sounds like there is either some dried-up Loctite residue in the threads, or maybe the threads have been deformed somehow. I would start by soaking the threads and screw with "Liquid Wrench", "Knock Er Loose", or "Kroil" if you have it. - Some kind of penetrating lubricant for stubborn fasteners....
