I'm Hogtied !

Post by Hakaman » Tue Aug 20, 2013 4:58 pm

I went through all the formalities of 'renewing' my CPL about 3 months ago.
Everything went find with all the department's bg checks. In other words, it's
ready to be sent out by the county I live in. Problem is, I haven't received it
yet because, according to the county clerk, they are having 'manpower'
shortages. Well my birthday has come and gone a week ago, an ole Hakaman
can't carry his SD gun if he wants to. The rep said it should be mailed out in a
week or two, and to call back if it doesn't show up by the beginning of sept.
Without having an active CPL , it sure makes a difference in my habits of
handling a gun. If I go to the range, now i've got to lock them in a safe place
in the car, unlike before. Sheez, I can't buy ammo, I can't buy reloading components,
now I can't carry my sd gun! My freedoms are in jeopardy !

I know the feeling. Mine's coming due for renewal in a few weeks and I'm sure that I will have a similar experience. Government cutbacks, you can't do anything about them you just have to live with it.

Got my VA permit four years ago, and back then they said to renew it 60 days early, but it would still be good five full years after the stated expiration. So I'll submit the renewal in May to be ready for the July expire date.

In Hak's case, it would seem they could still honor his permit since renewal is in process and it's their shortcoming making it late.

The representative at the county clerks office firmly suggested I should not carry until the new license comes. I have to say I agree with her in this matter based on the idea of lawyers getting hold of a case of sd without having the license to carry. I'll wait it out and hopefully it will get here soon.

I just went through the process here in TX. Since I had surgery in Jan, my dr had not released me, so the March renewal course I was signed up for so I had to move it. The following month was full so it got shifted till May. Mine expired the end of June. Then about the time I was expecting it (60 days) they requested updated fingerprints so I had to get that done. I finally got it after mine expired for about 7 weeks. So I could not carry in that time frame. I was not carrying very much since my shingles would be irritated more by the holster. So all is good now. But it does change what your routine. You feel kind of not fully dressed with out the holster/gun on.

Still waiting to hear about mine. I got a letter saying that there would be a delay, and nothing since then.

Sooner or later I guess I ought to call and ask them what's up, they've had my money for some while, now.

You know, it's sort of one sided, I get my tax bill and water bill from the city
without any delay! I bet if I owed the county money and was 2 weeks late on
the payment I would be assessed a penalty fee, even if I cried 'manpower issues!
One way politics, it grinds me.

Charles, It took almost 3 mo for my renewal. I had to get updated fingerprints which delayed the process about 3+ weeks.

Connect to DPS site and check your status. This is updated as they start processing the application. There will be no status till they start. I did not get any status for 6 weeks.

Ya think they work for the tax payers? Virginia has a 45 day limit for Clerks of Court to do the CHP. My county has been pretty good about beating the deadline, others need encouraging.

I've spent 3 decades submitting meaningless environmental reports that must be sent on time or I get fined. The gummint is allowed to sit on them for years or take their own sweet time responding. Still frosts me after all this time.
