It's a little slow in here, and i'm sure this question has been asked before, but what is your favorite carry gun, caliber, platform, and why?

I settled on the LCR-357. Revolvers are dependable. DAO is no snag and simple. Point, squeeze, bang. The 357 has a stainless frame, which adds a little weight over the 38 model to ease recoil, but still only 17 ounces. Stronger and more durable, too.

I can shoot 38s for practice and 357 for carry. Or be real cheap and shoot my LCR-22 for practice. Short barrel revolvers are harder to shoot, so even .22 practice helps with bigger calibers. I don't get a lot of practice, and six inches at ten yards is my average.

I like to carry the G27. This year I switched over to a Lone Wolf 40-9 barrel for the tamer recoil of 9mm vice the snappy .40 cal. Plus I can shoot the G17 mags with X-Grip spacers through the frame. That configuration gives me a whole lot to hang onto with my big hands, and having a few more rounds available doesn't hurt either.

It looks like open carry is in the works, here. I've been looking at a Cimarron single action army in 32-20.



In his younger years, Elmer Kieth used a revolver much like this, quite extensively. I'd probably go for the 5 1/2 inch barrel, though. Kieth preferred the 7 1/2 inch model.

My theory is that the longer barrel would be too much trouble when sitting down somewhere.

Mostly a Smith 442 .38 spl... easiest full caliber gun to carry.

Still packing my custom Armscor/RIA phony CCO IN 45acp - probably 75%+ of the time.

Lately the "other carry gun" has been a Walther P99C, or the wallet-that-shoots, a KelTec p32. Swapping to those is pretty rare, either because the CCO is filthy or I need lighter/invisible carry.

Kimber Ultra Carry II TLE in 45acp. Carries very well in my IWB holster. And the 45 has enough fire power to most any job.

I still carry my Kahr PM9 for the most part, but alternate it with Ruger LCR
38sp+p. The simplicity of a revolver is attractive. For me, the lighter the better.
I would imagine too many people get turned off about carrying because
of weight issue. There's nothing like a .45acp for hole making, but a 38+p can
do significant damage.

I stick with Hornady XTP .38s for carry in my LCR. Nice notched semi-jacket hollow point for sufficient damage. 357s are a bit too much for me, and I think a risk for over-penetration.

I have to agree with Charlesb- except mine is a Ruger Vaquero in .45 Colt.
Its not at all difficult to carry concealed and I have more Bang time with it that any other handgun I own.
I carried a .40 XDM for a while, and it wasn't any easier to conceal.

Cimarron has a scaled-down version of the single action army, the "P Jr." model, that comes in 38 special. I've always thought that one of those would be great for carrying concealed.

You can also get it with two cylinders, one for 32-20 and one for 32 H&R.

The The 4 1/2" model looks (in proportion) like a full-sized 5 1/2", the 5 1/2" model looks like a full-sized 7 1/2". - But smaller, over-all.

The only thing I'd wonder about with these would be the availability of holsters.

Are they scaled down enough that Single-Six holsters would fit? Even so, I guess holster makers aren't thinking of someone CCW-ing a SA revolver.

Would definitely be my old SA Micro with the well worn OD green finish, but due to old age now carry the S&W 442 as it is only half the weight
