New "Zip" handgun, .22LR uses 10/22 mags

Post by ruger22 » Mon Feb 04, 2013 2:02 pm

Four different colors, several optional accessory rails, uses any 10/22 mags. Even optional shoulder stocks. $200 for the basic Zip with no mag.

Interesting, but too much plastic for me.

Takes a while to skim the whole website, lots of buttons and videos:

http://www.zipfactory.com/
* 2 Ruger Bearcat stainless, w/ EWK ejector housings & Wolff springs
* Ruger SP-101 .22LR, w/ Wolff springs
* 2 NAA Guardian .32ACP
* 3 Zastava M70 .32ACP
* S&W 15-22 Sport (.22LR AR)
* 2 Ruger SR22 .22LR pistols

Well, ruger22, doesn't look like it will rust.

Interesting, but I'd really like to see one up close and personal. Weird looking and I can't figure out how to hold it.

I'm the same way.

The website ought to have one good, clear picture of the gun with magazine in place that one could consider, without having to dig around.

At first look - it looks kind of awkward.

From what I've seen on video reviews the mag is the grip. Interesting concept and inexpensive enough to sell quite a few.

I want one as a toy, and experimental platform.

I should send them an email and volunteer to torture test one in an arid, desert environment prior to them being sent to the Middle East.

Course, they would also have to provide the ammo ;-)

Thank you for making such a sacrifice. :lol:

That looks like a lot of fun, maybe when the hoarding stops I'll consider one.
It looks like it's a little awkward to grip, as it looks like the shooters grab it
right around the mass of it?

Zip pistol

Post by superdave » Mon Feb 18, 2013 8:16 pm

Looks rather interesting, but I'm a little concerned that it is a "blowback" design, and will require 'bullet power' to cycle the action. Looks like it has some really good design aspects, though. Fully 'ambi' and has replaceable and recognized wear parts. The platform adaptabilty look good, and it is extremely light weight. Don't know for sure if I'd want one hanging under my AR, but in the right situation, it could be an asset. It'll be interesting to read some reviews after a few folks actually get their hands on one and see what it will do.

Why is this a concern with the particular gun? That's how nearly every .22lr autoloader works.

Regarding the blowback comment, I understand that that is the basic principle behind all semis, but the comment is based on what I read on their website. Just seems that they are aware that there are possible combos where the action won't cycle correctly. I'd really like to get my hands on one and spend some time at the range with it to check it out. Still seems like an innovative design with no "finger pincher" in the mix.
