Mystery Scratch

Found a fairly deep scratch in the receiver of my MKII GC. No idea what caused it. It's been a while since I cleaned the pistol so I don't know when it got scratched.

The bolt on my MKII GC started coming back in a jerky motion when fired. Bgreene thought it was dry and it did improve after I did a field strip and wipe down. Cleaned it yesterday and there was a good amount of grunge and a lot around the recoil spring. Then I noticed the scratch. Don't know if it was causing my problem. Guess I'll have to force myself to take it out and find out today.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Image

I don't think it will be a problem.

Wondered if something happened to the RS assembly causing it to move out of position.

My first thought would be to take a good look at the butterfly end of your recoil spring assembly and see if there are any signs of wear on it. This scratch appears to be in the vicinity of that part.

I thought I had responded. Checked the recoil assembly and didn't see any unusual wear. If it was the butterfly, wouldn't it be more along the receiver axis?

100 rounds and the pistol functioned flawlessly after cleaning. Can't say the same for the operator.

Is the scratch as bad as it looks in the photo? It LOOKS like it's pretty deep, something you couldn't polish smoother once the cause is eliminated.

Looks sort of deep, but probably no safety problem and I don't see a problem that would affect function.
