I think I need one in .22LR, looks like a fun shooter. Thinking of the Smith M&P15-22, anyone's opinions are welcome. Do not have much black gun knowledge at all.

I know this isn't helpful, but I utterly fail to see the attraction. If I'm going to spend north of $500 on a .22, it'd be a nice CZ, not a plastic wannabe.

But then, I'm the sort of old fuddy-duddy that doesn't even own a semi-auto .22 of any sort.

To each his own of course, just trying to understand the concept.

Actually about 450.00 will get you one. I have too many .22's now and will try to trade off my 1976 or 1988 572BDL on one. The barrel letters on the 572 make it either one of those years. Just want a play around shoot em up fun gun, I feel the need to expend a lot of ammo because it's fun.

You can dress up a 10/22 to be anything, Ruger will do it for you, but I know you are well versed in swapping out assemblies on that platform.

The "Colt" ar15 wannabe thing doesn't run so great, I've seen and shot one, it was unimpressive. (that was the one I stood next to the owner firing prone at 100 yards and missing while I got hits on a gong with my mkIII) ... it is made by Umarex, the same company making Walther-lite products like the P22 and pk380

I hear good things about the S&W, not sure who makes it off the top of my head. They make an AR-like pistol as well.

I really like the fact that you can store mags in the stock, some of the SU-16 rifles have that and some have folding stocks ... they're a pretty spiffy design and actually made in the US, I'm a big Kel-Tec fan if you couldn't tell, I just don't need most of their guns.

That's the AR-type pistol I would buy if I were looking for one.

If blasting away from a 30-round mag is your goal, KT is making the PMR30 also, a semiauto pistol in .22wmr that takes flush-fit 30-round magazines. I've had one on order for months now, KT was slow to get their machines up to full production and over-advertised the PMR30 before release, so there's quite a waiting list everywhere.

If you got that and became bored with it, I'd probably take it off your hands for whatever you had in it, B&OM.

I imagine you could have fun with whichever one you picked out, but I'm of the opinion that most "AR-15 like" guns are appealing to people with a desire to pretend they're shooting an M16/M4 ... which makes more sense in cheap rimfire, I suppose.

Of course, you could always get a M1-carbine look-alike built up and do some WW2 tactical blasting with oversize 10/22 magazines, that's how I roll!

BFD, I am leaving shortly to look at the S&W M&P15-22 at a nearby town LGS. If they make me a good deal trading in my 572BDL, I will take them up on it. Always thought I wanted a pump, but not all that excited about it anymore and rarely shoot it. I was thinking of the M1 carbine look alike in a 10/22 but hav tried the hi cap mags and they are not anywhere near reliable as they ahould be, have a couple that have not seen the light of day in years,

The Ruger black gun is way overpriced as far as I can see.

Well Sue, the owner of the LLGS where I bought my International had an M&P 15-22 in stock and it looked good to me. She made me a fair offer on the trade in of my 572 BDL and now she owns it and I own the M&P 15-22. Now to put a reflex sight on it and hope it gets warm enough to go to the range soon.

Looks like it will be a fun shooter. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Pesonally, the "black guns" just don't blow my skirt up. I don't have anything against them though, just not my thing. But that is also why there are many different brands of many things. Cars, guns, electronics, even wives--what suits one may not suit another. We are lucky we live where we have choices.

looks Nice, I think I like the Flat tops a lot better than the carry handle versions for shooting.... especially if you are going to add and optic, mounting on the carry handle works but is a pain in the buttox because it is so high off the bore.

Me too, got a 4X Bushnell that I took off of the 572 I traded in. Just have to switch the rimfire rings for a regular Weaver set that I have in my parts box, and then, I believe what I want is a 45 degree rail adapter to mount a reflex sight on, like Jerry Miculek uses in them run and gun shoots. That way I can use the 4X for 25 yard and flip the gun partially sideways and use the reflex at 5 or 7 yard. I think all I need is the adapter, do not know much about black guns except they are black.

I've shot a few of the CF black rifles, and they are fun to shoot. recoil like a 22mag.

the one I have the most experience with is my issued m16a1. the triggers on current production stuff are a heck of a lot better than my vietnam era surplus rifle.
