Green Mountain Fluted, tapered barrel (10/22)

Post by greener » Sat Apr 09, 2011 9:09 pm

I fired over 150 rounds from my 10/22 with an 18" Green Mountain tapered fluted barrel.

The 18" barrel looks noticeably shorter on the Tundra stock.
The fit into the receiver was tight and some sanding was required.
Overall, the fluted barrel shoots better than my OEM barrel. At 50 yards:
CCI Blazer ~2" and flyers
Federal 510 Surprisingly good 1"-1.5" groups, couple of flyers
Winchester T22. Good, one group under 1".
Federal Automatch: Better in pistols
Federal Value Pack: As good as anything I shot. Sub 1.5" group, one flyer.
Golden Eagle Rifle Match: Neither of my 10/22's like this ammo.
Aquila Super: Ok, but the Winchester does as well or better.

I'm not sold on the 18" barrel, but I'd like to try a longer version.

Surprise of the day: Federal Wally World Value pack in the bull-barrel 10/22, at least as good as anything I fired today.

I think I'd prefer the 20" over the 18". Went shooting with a guy who sells rebuilt 10/22's. Got to try the 18" barrel, will probably buy a 20" from him.
