Last night I spent some time refinishing a freind's 22/45 who had stoered it in her damp basement.... in a pistol rug... for the last 6-8 months
I had previously repaired it after her brother broke the bushing, hammer pin, and rear sight blade attempting to clear some sort of "jam"
unfortunately I did not snapa any before pics because I just couldn't let the poor thing set any longer without a good coat of oil. but there were rust freckles all over the upper assembly.
I started out with a good detail srtip, clean, lube and reassemble.
thenI stripped the bluing with Birchwood casey's "bluing and rust remover"
and gave the metal a good sanding and polish with 800 grit and 00 steel wool.
then after a good degreasing I reblued with Birchwood casey's "Super Blue" and touched up later with "perma Blue"
i think it came out quite good.

Way to go, nice job!
It's frustrating when folks treat firearms like a chunk of iron.
