Anyone ever built a wooden pistol cleaning vise? Am looking for some plans. Thanks. Doug

I too was contemplating some type of holding device for pistol cleaning when I came across a vacuum based articulating vise at Harbor Freight.

My only regret is that I didn't spot it sooner. It's got slip-on rubber jaws for no marring, and turns in any direction I see fit. And when you're done using it, unclamp the vacuum base and get it out of the way. It made pushing a cleaning brush through my .44 Super Blackhawk a piece of cake.

dmottern & FlyerTom .... Welcome to Guntalk-Online

Never had a need for one. But I have small machinist vice I can use with leather pads when ever I need one. Those vacuum base units require a smooth surface to stick too. I have a similar vice with clamp on base.

Never had a wooden one. This is what I use for pistol cleaning and lots of other stuff too.

Shop Fox #D3125 parrot vise. It swivels R-L and UP-Down and fixes the position when you tighten the jaws. I use their #WI-D3126-X tilting jaws with it most of the time, Rubber faced jaws, and tilts to account for angles. It fits over the main beam like a saddle, and just rides there.
ETA - and welcome to you both to one of the most helpful forums on the net.
