Hornady Neck Sizer

Post by charlesb » Thu Nov 13, 2014 12:29 pm

Usually I just buy a Lee die set with the neck sizer - but apparently Lee doesn't make a neck sizer die for my cartridge, 270 WSM.

At Midway, I found a Hornady neck sizer for 270 WSM pretty cheap, twenty bucks or so - So I bought one of those, and a Lee die set that included a full-length die and a bullet seating die, plus shell holder.

The Hornady neck sizer required a one-time setup procedure which the Lee die does not require. But it wasn't hard to do and once I had it set up, it worked just fine. You have to lube the inside of the neck, but I guess I can live with that.

Over-all I'd say it's a fine product. Hornady gives you an extra couple of de-capping pins to go with it, a nice feature.

When I'm neck sizing I use MICA for lube. Mine is in small can mixed with tiny beads. All you do is dip and spin and you done. Since it's a dry lube nothing needs to be cleaned off. Does make a difference when it comes to sizing. As with any neck sizing you eventually need to bump the shoulder back after 4-5 firing. So depending on how much you shoot you may need to even anneal the necks too.

I've got to try that out. - I hate using RCBS lube, which is what I'm currently working with.
