You need to carry in Athens, GA, for protection against gangs.

Wild Turkeys have some pretty serious spurs on their legs and the Toms can be quite aggressive, especially during mating season.

I read Bullseye's response before I clicked on the link -- needless to say, for a short time I was very confused

One inch or longer spur could do some serious damage to your body.
You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

I've had to stop my vehicle and shoo them off the trail in Grayling, MI, but I've never seen them fight. If they fight like chickens, it would be mostly pecking and beating you with the wings before they hit with a strong down stroke with the spurs.

If you had to act in self defense, I'm sure it would take a lot of explaining before the game and fish folks would let you keep it for dinner....if you told them.

My buddy's neighbor shot one in his back yard that was digging up his garden....the DNR didn't find the humor in it especially when they found it in his freazer, it was not Turkey season, and he shot it in the city limits.

His answer should have been "what turkey?"

If you are going to do it illegally you might just as well go all the way and shoot it with an illegal firearm, like a sawed off shotgun, and cover all the bases.
Like Gary Coleman in Different Strokes always said to his big brother, "What you talkin about????"

They fly upward toward your face and flail with their feet to use those spurs. They can leave some really nasty wounds.
