Ever thought how expensive guns are?

Post by ruger22 » Sun Aug 26, 2012 2:50 pm

In relation to other things? I compared guns to cars. A typical gun comes out to about $400 a pound, let's say. A car has lots of steel, alloys and other materials. Plenty of forging, casting and machining, with a lot of tight tolerances, just like guns. Yet if a car was $400 a pound, a 2500 pound car would cost a million dollars. If it sells for 20k, that's eight dollars a pound.

On the other end, a high quality mechanical watch is an example. Lots of tiny precise parts for sure, weighs maybe an ounce and a half? The cheapest Rolex, no gold or jewels, is maybe a thousand bucks. Makes that Rolex about eleven thousand dollars a pound.

Some things are just worth more than the sum of their parts. Or, their weight in gold! Can't put a price on piece-of-mind in my book.

If you happen to buy the right ones they will do better than the market.....

I look at guns as investments in my well being......
