car repair

Post by bgreenea3 » Sat Jan 26, 2013 3:29 pm

To get away from the doom and gloom of the AWB... I spent the morning and early after noon replacing the rear struts in my car..... It seems that broken springs will poke a hole through the sidewall of your tire. And holy cow is the ride better with good suspension components.

I'm glad we were up to 25 degrees today so it was nice and warm working on the buggy.

I once had an old car with a similar situation. The frame cross member that the rear struts mount onto had broken it's welds and came loose from the frame. This would cause the car to start randomly oscillating up and down in the rear as you went down the road much like riding the waves in a small boat. It took me a few months working at the auto body shop to save up and buy a new frame part and have it welded back onto the frame but those months were interesting driving down the highway. When I first bought the car it had the sag you mentioned but I solved that problem with a set of leaf spring risers because it didn't have coil springs in the rear. Fortunately all this took place in the spring and summertime because I would definitely have had trouble controlling it on the road after the snow flew.
