More disgust with ammo situation

Post by ruger22 » Thu Aug 29, 2013 12:27 pm

Gander today, CCI Quiet for $4, 50 rounds, was their only truck day .22LR. They only got three cases. Last week was CCI standard velocity, $5 for 50 rounds, $50 a brick. At least they got six cases then.

The shipments have shrunk over the last month. Less of all calibers coming in. Most of the .22 is the pricier stuff, like the Quiet and SV. Winchesters in the cheap wooden box for $50. They were getting more boxes of more basic ammo in July.

From what I see, the ammo makers are taking advantage of the situation, turning out the more expensive styles instead of more basic types and bulk ammo. No one around me has gotten a single Federal Value Pack since December, uness maybe Wal-Mart has gotten some of their special brown Value Packs. Don' know, since I'm working when Wally puts it on the shelf.

I'm wondering if it will ever end. Eight months and counting.

CCI Quiet is fun ammo and fairly accurate out of a bolt action it was going for $3.50 a box before Firearmmageddon. $4.50 isn't unreasonable.

I still prefer the $2.49 Champion. I managed eight boxes of it in July, all I've seen this year. Still hoping for two Federal Value Packs before cold weather; haven't seen one of those since December, except the ones in my stash.

Shipments are still pricey stuff. Sportsman's this week was Eley Club at $12..99 a box, and Remington/Eley Match for $19.99 (forty cents a round for .22 ??). One case of each was all they got.

Gander this morning was Federal Gold Medal Target, two cases, $4.99 a box. Ten cents a round still a long way from Value Packs.

.22 ammo is starting to creep out. May take a while but supply may catch up with demand, as long as big brother stays out of the mix.
