new IDPA rules

I've shot USPSA for over 25 years and IDPA for about seven years. I've never concerned myself about the different philosophies, different approaches, and different rules. Participation in IDPA was just another day to enjoy shooting, competition, and good company. Recently the IDPA rules were changed to a somewhat more restrictive demands. I noticed that participation numbers were steadily dwindling over the past few months. Saturday the Match Director announced that this was the last IDPA match for our club. It would now be a local Defensive Pistol Match no longer run under an affiliation with IDPA and would be a match under a mixture of old IDPA rules with some minor "tweaks." The MD indicated this was a result of the dwindling participation and the myriad of complaints about the (put your favorite pejorative term here) new rules.
Personally, I could care less...tell me the rules, I'll shoot under them. But, I wonder if this is just my club or is it going to be something with which IDPA will have to deal? The law of unintended consequences?
