Proposed change to the Rifle Forum
Calling all GTOL members,
I have had a proposal to change the Rifle Forum from its present configuration into separate rifle categories. Since there are so many AR-15 postings there is a call to start a forum specifically for the Service Rifle instead of the one general forum for all centerfire rifles. Since I am committed to meeting the needs of our membership, I am putting up this poll to see what the overall consensus is about this type of change. Your opinions will decide the outcome.
The poll will run for two weeks from this date.
Thanks,
Bullseye

What he said.......Looks yoonanamuss on an AR category. Makes them happy, and us non-AR fans can skip to "other rifles".

I like all kinds of rifles. I believe though that there is enough discussion of 'black rifles' to support a separate section.
Having discussions of black or tactical rifles separated from sporting arms would be better for both, allowing a bit more focus.
In some ways, I think a 'Black Rifle' or maybe 'Tactical Rifle' section as opposed to 'AR15' might be less confusing.
This would land AR owners who set up for deer or varmint hunting in the "Sporting Rifle" section with the other hunters and plinkers, and guys who set up nice camo or black bolt rifles with heavy barrels and big scopes for law enforcement would wind up in the "Black Rifle" section along with the tactical AR guys.

It is a very popular topic today, it seems, and there are entire forums dedicated to AR rifles. I occasionally go to them, but it seems like the whole world of shooters are in there at the same time. It's hard to get to know anyone. Although this forum is smaller, I think a "Black Rifle" forum would be nice. I would definitely use it.

AR focused forum
I agree that a separate forum dedicated to AR15 / black guns is a good idea. I own a sweet Ruger 10/22 and a Ted Williams 12GA shotgun that my dad left me. I have not entered the black gun crowd as yet, but they do interest me. The huge selection, caliber choices and features is a little daunting to learn and make a reasoned choice for a first gun in that platform. It seems the trade mags rave about ALL of them - the recent Shot Show was loaded with entrants. GunTalk Online.com is a place to get comprehensive, fair assessments from people with experience and willing to share. I think this proposed black gun forum would be a great resource for shooters like me, too.

At the risk of opening a can of worms here, what can a black gun do that I can't do with a Ruger Mini-14? Besides have a rail, complicated maintenance, and break my bank buying new goodies and mods?
I can see myself with a black synthetic and stainless (Model 5805) Mini-14 Ranch Rifle. They even have a tactical model with an adjustable stock and a rail. I don't see myself with an AR type.

Different strokes for different folks, you like redheads, but don't let you wife catch you with one as it could be hazardous to your health.ruger22 wrote:At the risk of opening a can of worms here, what can a black gun do that I can't do with a Ruger Mini-14? You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.
No, I don't like redheads any more than other colors. She doesn't like redheads.
Seriously, AR fans! Sell me an AR over a Mini-14.
