I hear you, 22. I was looking at the mod. 87 and almost lost my lunch. It is all steel and had nice grips, but jeez, talk about sticker shock. I've got my heart set on the Browning Compact model. I won't be using it for target shooting as I have a MKII target in SS that fits that bill. Oh, and I wou...

Browning 1911-22

I went to local gun shop this past weekend and fell in love with the Browning 85% 1911-22 compact model. It comes in a 3 3/4' and a 5 1/2' barrel. It's aluminium, with a stainless barrel. Anyone have one or have opinions, I would love to hear them before I plunk down the rather hefty $595 price tag....

Always used iron sights my whole life. I used a scope once. Put over a hundred rounds through 4 red targets without a flyer. The Red Dot would make life simpler, but got to go with what I know. Don't have anything against technology, except finger grips. They drive me nuts!! So, is a .22 good enugh ...

I'm in that boat with you two. Too old to fight, too old to run, to old to intimidate. Firearms are my last resort. The .45 went right through the Achilles tendon and exited behind the little toe. It didn't touch anything vital. Guess I was lucky. Would not try the same in the body mass, though. TJ

In my situation, being in CA, you don't shoot baddies at 21'. They have to be coming at you while you've retreated as far as you can. That puts them in a backlit door frame with an obstacle. Though I don't shoot as much as I used to, I still am a dead shot. I do believe my previous training of shoot...

Though I've already posted, it just came to me that besides the Ruger Standard, I had a nice Ruger Target in SS that was a bell ring. I also have had a early, 1933 Colt Woodsman "Sport" that was very nice, and S&W mod 18 that was awesome. TJ

MY favorite .22 pistol is a Ruger Standard, any MK, though I'm getting partial to the MK III. TJ

You carry people are lucky you're not in Ca., but you do go on a bit. TJ Years ago, and I mean a lot of years ago, I spent some time in CA on business a couple of times and that is one place I really would not care to live, Ill is another one. I read that in Chicago, 2010, 440 school age kids were ...

Sounds like we'll all be in a fix within a few years. With the "inner city" discontent, their heroes being Rappers, Gang Leaders, Sleazy Sports figures, and corrupt politicians. Their leaders are Panthers, Muslims, and radical "preachers." They are sure to be a handful. Our "Open Door" policy is cha...

Smart move, Bullseye. In '82, we passed a law that there would be no further gun laws!!! Ha! What can you do with Senators like Feinstein and Boxer? Still, nice weather. TJ

Thanks Jack, I gave my SP101 .357 to my daughter. She's in a more vulnerable place than I am. A pump 12 ga. would be the most effective home defense weapon, I believe. Not too much over penetration (I wouldn't want to kill my neighbors) and just the sound of it racking back would put the thing in a ...

I actually meant this topic to be about home defense , not carry. There's a hundred better choices for personal carry. We here in CA don't have a chance to carry (legally) because they don't issue like other states. I'm speaking about people who have 22's and are not carry people. I'd have at least ...

I completely agree about the .45 being the gun of choice for defense. Trouble is, I don't have one anymore. I had a nice Springfield Mil Spec. I can affirm that it shoots and hits it's target (in this case, my foot!) Now all I have is a .22, with which I'm a dead shot. Under pressure is one thing, b...

.22 For Defense

Now, I have read many articles, as have many of you, that the .22 is not a good round for defense. I believe that has some truth in it, and wouldn't want to be in a shootout with a guy with a .44 or .45. But, I say if your home is broken into, ten quick shots to the body mass and head will take the ...

Thanks, Bullseye. I will simply call it a '53 Standard, and let the others sort it out. TJ
