to Drill or Not to Drill ?

... that is the question ... I have a Pre-Factory-Drill-Tap Mark-II with the Adj.Sights and would like to mount a 2x20 scope (maybe RedDot) on it. My local GunSmith wants $20/hole to drill-tap. I was looking at the Weigand rail mounts at rfSports: RM2SM $40 and RM2FD $20 Does anyone have experience ...

.223 vs 5.56mm

I have a NEF single-shot .223 Rifle with the heavy barrel. I like the single-shot, as it keeps me from burning thru a box of ammo in a single clip... I usually buy an inexpensive .223 ammo at Academy. The other day they had Winchester Q3131 which is labeled as "5.56mm", not ".223". I'm (sorta...

Just a guess... webservers keep LOGS of just about everything. This is TimeChange night... and many WebMasters will just shut-down their servers for the overlap periods to avoid confusion of the LOGging. They can use the time to update/ refresh/ backup the server and come back on-line a little later...

recoil - jams

I presume several here may have already known this... but it was new-to-me. I was reading a magazine article on a "self defense class", specifically on the difficulty of drawing your weapon and firing in a brief time. It mentioned that often times the eject/reload cycle will jam... due to the lack o...

Re: Has anyone seen new savage bolt with heavy barrel

I saw a synthetic stock, bolt action, blued heavy target barreled savage rifle. http://www.savagearms.com/markiifv.htm http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=2684955 I've "examined" it... it sure felt nice... Savage does have Left-models, I didn't see one in the Heavy/Varmit barrel.....

I shipped the pistol to S-W on 13 Sep. On 22 Sep, FedEx had a delivery for me that I got on the 23rd. The work-Order indicated a "barrel change". It did not appear to be a "new barrel", but a perfectly good, slightly used barrel from the "warranty repair work shop". No comment was made or offered as...

Re: Where to go for instruction in basic shooting form

instruction on pistol shooting form and techniques. what pistol/revolver do you have? are you thinking .22LR or CenterFire ? are you interested in Target/Range shooting (only) ? do you have rural-access to enjoy plinking/varmits ? Have you considered taking the (new) Ohio 'Concealed Carry' class ? ...

Mossberg 144US .22 from CMP

back in July, I attended the Camp-Perry "Pistol School". While there I went shopping at the 'CMP store' and decided to buy one of their remaining late-40s trainers: Mossberg 144US .22LR They are bolt-action with a magazine, but are sold WITHOUT Mags. I found a place on the net selling Mags for the 1...

A book on Ruger Mark I/II

I stumbled upon this 168pp Paperback book, pub 2002. It's $10 at WallyMart.com - ISBN: 0873644883 ' Ruger 22 Automatic Pistol: Standard, Mark-I, Mark-II Series ' by Duncan Long Note: this is PRE-Mark-III, it is just Mark-I -and- Mark-II He has a webpage at http://www.DuncanLong.com/ (not exactly wha...

I like everything that moves to be smooth as glass. yep, this "gunsmithing" seems a lot like the first time I had ***. I was nervous, I had looked at the pictures but still wasn't sure how to do it, I couldn't find anyone that would let me watch them, I didn't want to hurt myself or anyone else, I ...

boomer: I am glad that your "test" gave some good support to your modified-firing-pin. I have a couple extra-pins on order, this would be my first-self-mod and I do not want to cripple my gun due to my in-experience. I have some 20+ year-old Federal "Hi-Power" (#810, now Game-Shok HV) They still hav...

Bullseye, do you own one of the CZ .22's or are you familiar with them? I've been thinking about getting a rimfire rifle and I looked at CZ's web site. They look good and seem to be priced right. The 452 series apparently has an adjustable trigger which is attractive to me. Can you give me some adv...
