Update to this old thread

http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/sh ... p?t=144208

The link is to an old thread on Rimfire Central explaining how to do the conversion. One section shows how I did a MK1 using a simple wire method instead of drilling the frame to hold the spring and plunger.

Hope this helps someone. Joe

A high quality Pipe Vise

I have used an old US made 2" pipe vise for many handgun and rifle barrels with great success. Most pipe vises nowadays are from China I suspect, so I can't say how well they would hold up. I use Aluminum blocks bored oversize, then epoxy lined for most barrels. I've also used hardwood plain and epo...

Shotshell reloading is fun!

A good Shotshell reloading manual is good to have. The Lyman book is tops. It will give you all kinds of recipes; perhaps overkill though for a beginner. You can just use whatever is recommended by Mec, as to what powder to use with the bar that comes with the machine. You can also obtain various po...

Great idea!

Great idea on the spring bpratl ! I've done two conversions; one with a factory style plunger, and one with a thin spring wire milled into a slot in the top edge of the hold open gizmo. I built a drill jig to precisely drill for the factory parts, but that will only work on certain frames; can't rec...

Loose ejector rod?

I'm very late to the party here, but it sounds like a typical case of a loose ejector rod binding up the cylinder. This is a very common problem with Smith revolvers that is easily remedied in most cases. Your gun has left hand threads on the ej. rod. If you don't have the correct tool to tighten it...

Get replacement parts from Brownells

Sorry if I confused you Allen. I sometimes get carried away with my thinking when converted to typing! You can get new cylinder latch parts from Brownells if your parts are battered from the pin jumping out. Also, I have on several occasions replaced the spring with a slightly heavier one made from ...

Excellent books!

These are great books, with an enormous amount of good, solid gunsmithing information from proffesional gunsmith's and hobbiests alike. You won't be dis- appointed if you like technical information, and an occasional good joke. Tons of good ideas.

Well worth having in my opinion. Safe Shooting! Joe

Possible to re- tap hole and make new screw?

I realize this is an old thread, but it's an interesting one IMHO. It may well be possible to re- thread the barrel hole to say 6/48, and make a new screw. I think the original is 6/40 if I recall. I haven't had a Blackhawk apart in a long while, so I could be all wet. (That has happened a time or t...

This is probably the tool you are looking for. It makes bolt installing, and extractor servicing much easier.
