As far as I can see, the bases look ok on the pictures. While I wouldn't use those in match loads, I wouldn't hesitate to use them in practice loads. I generally inspect the bullets I load for match ammo a bit closer than the practice ammo. Try some of those crimped to .468, but if the bullet is ver...

If a fingernail can make a mark, that's soft enough. I'd increase the amount of crimp to .468-.469. 470 and .471 I only use for swaged lead bullets. Don't be too excited about minor flaws on the bullet shoulder. The place that you really need to be anal about is the base. It must be perfect for good...

I can't answer the ballistic question, really don't know. I just know unless the speed of hardball is kept up there, it just won't shoot as well at 50. 25 is a different story, speed can be less there. Perhaps it has something to do with the longer bearing surface of the SWC design engaging the rifl...

I've found Eley Ten-x to be the most accurate ammo in my MKII at 50 yards. It will group under 3/4" out of the Ransom Rest. I only use it for the 50 yard line at Camp Perry, Regionals and State matches. For indoor and 25 yard line I use either Aquila Se or CCI SV. Ten-x is just too costly to justify...

Don't be overly concerned with how fast. Bullseye is a game of precision bullet placement, not how fast the bullet gets there. Do your range testing with the emphasis on how tight the groups are and how reliable the ammo is. Each gun barrel is going to be a rule unto itself. What you're doing is nor...

Hakaman, you're on the right track with having an experienced reloader to mentor your in the learning stage. He will pick up on things you do that there is a safe shortcut on that isn't in the books. Some words of caution. Try to stay only with properly documented, researched, and tested loads. Don'...

Just thought of something that I haven't mentioned before and don't recall seeing. When you get a good zero at 50 yards, take your rear sight ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM WHILE COUNTING THE NUMBER OF CLICKS then jot that number and the load used down in a place where you won't lose it. I do this with m...

Chamber check
BAOM, I may have misinterpreted what you stated and if so I apologize in advance, but---DO NOT MAKE YOUR ROUND THE FULL LENGTH OF THE CHAMBER TO THE MAXIMUM LENGTH OF THE HOOD!! When you drop your loaded round into your (REMOVED) barrel, make sure your loaded round is a few thousanths LESS than the ...

NUCWO3 Bullseye, as usual, is dead on. For my hardball gun with the Bomar sight it is 5 clicks down when going from 50 yards to the 25 yard line. I tried the different sight pictures but found it too confusing to be switching back & forth amongst all the other match details I was trying to pay atten...

Georgezilla, It is both. Accuracy without 100% reliability is worthless. If you crimp to at least .470, your ammo should reliably feed through any factory cut chamber. I do an extensive amount of testing with my Ransom Rest. I like to try various combination's of crimp, bullet hardness, overall leng...

Over all length--- a really good rule of thumb for SWC lead ammo is this. Leave about 1-2 thicknesses(of your fingernail) of lead exposed above the end of the brass. This will give you a good feeding round with just about every SWC lead bullet design out there and you won't run into ammo seated so l...

You are correct in that the Dillon will maintain consistent powder charges. I loaded on an RCBS 4x4 for about 20 years before finally buying a 550 a couple of years ago. both are really great machines and I highly recommend both, but the Dillon has by far a better primer delivery system. I set mine ...
