For dot sight, 5.5" bull barrel.
For iron sights, the 6.7/8 long tapered barrel is excellent from the factory. With a Volquartsen rear sight added.

For dot or irons in combo, the 5.5 bull with Volquartsen rear.

Porting is not necessary.

I used to not like the fit and feel of the slant grip HS and Rugers. But after getting to realize that fit and feel was not one of the fundamentals, it doesn't matter any more. Some of my best targets lately are with my MkII's, right along with the Hammerli, Marvel, 41 and HS.

Indeed. Standing tall, head erect, shooting the 1911 requires a higher arm and then the wrist goes down, becoming more stable. For me at least. I wonder why it is so difficult to remember to stand tall.

For bullseye shooting, I have switched to ambidextrous wood laminated grips on Rugers. These checkered panels and stippling front and back on the frame give good solid control of the gun. I'm beginning to think there is something to the grip angle the Euros have with their bent down wrists.

Rugers are indeed accurate

I placed a 1.5-4 pistol telescope on my new MkII. Its a ******* serial number 6 7/8" stainless Gov't target model (slabsides). After zeroing I had clusters of shots 1/4" and one 4 shot group 1/8". This was at 25yds with a hand hold arms resting on a chair arm. At 50 yds the best I could do was 1 1/2...

I've never felt that traction was an issue when using the Hogue grips. The soft rubber construction really grips your hand. When you combine that with the finger grooves, it makes for one great feeling grip. The stippling job on your pistol looks nice. One drawback, after applying stippling, the fr...

I suggest having someone who knows how to stipple the fore and back straps like here. Traction to the hand is most helpful

My Volquartsen sight went on easy. It does need the two setscrews for sure. I centered the sight on the frame and lowered the front sight blade about a millimetre. The shots at 25yds were right on with the sights adjustment range right where I want it. I wish I had put the Volquartsen on my other Mk...

"Does it matter where in the rail it's mounted?" Speaking from a one hand off hand target point of view (Bullseye), the dot scope will move more relative to the wrist, the more forward it sits. Also there is a weight, balance and feel for it's placement. Also if you do want to compete on bullseyes, ...

I got the Volquartsen rear sight that is very much like the BoMar. It went on easy and required no machining like the BoMar. I think I will have to lower the front blade some. Beats raising it :) Also had to shorten the Ruger weaver type rail at the rear by about 1/4". No affect on using the Ultrado...

I was having some cycling issues with my MKII and Aguila SV ammo the last two times at the range. Aguila apparently is softer ammo and this particular lot has many oversize rounds that fail the chamber drop test. At the same time this aguila will work ok in a Marvel and a 208s. The MKII cycles perfe...

Rear sights

I would like to hear opinions of the Volquartsen replacement rear sight for serious bullseye target use. Does it require any frame machining like the BoMar does? How does it compare in quality to the BoMar? How well does it match the front sight height? I just found my third MkII. A stainless Compet...

MkII Trigger just barely lifts 2#

....like 2 times out of 6 if I hold my breath. I put a Volquartsen sear in the Stainless MkII target. Also the bigger tab slide stop lever. No other changes except clean and liberal FP10. The trigger could be a little heavier. Maybe the Hammerli type molyslide I put on the sear surface is a bit too ...
