Athena, Your recoil spring may be a little too stiff. If you're using a slide mounted dot a 12-13# should work out fine. If its a frame mounted dot or open sights, a 15-16#. Personally I like my recoil spring stiff enough to fail to lock back after the last shot from the magazines if I limp wrist th...

fundamentals

"I focused in on that 3.5lb trigger and put my next three in the black" BINGO!!! #1. correct stance (especially important for Timed & Rapid fire) to establish your Natural Area of Aim. #2. Focus on the front sight. #3. Apply pressure on the trigger until the shot breaks while applying #2. #4. See #2...

Fuzzy Dot

If your dot has an appearance like a comet with a tail, try rotating the scope while looking at the dot. If the tail rotates with the scope, then its the dot. If the comet tail stays in basically the same position while the scope is rotating, its your eyes. Welcome to middle age. I'm also a believer...

Detail Stripping

Mine get detailed 2x per year. Once before indoor season and once before outdoor season. In between the MKII's get the bolt removed and the upper taken off and thoroughly brushed and flushed. Before every shooting session they get lightly oiled with Red Oil. About every 2 weeks the chamber gets brus...

Shiny Sights

My solution to a shiny front sight only applys for that particular shooting session. I've tried the carbide/water lamps, which do a fine job, however a 99cent Bic lighter held to the sights gives them a very dark black soot coating that lasts for that shooting session. Cheap and effective! Gotta lov...

shock buff

My recommendation would be to use the correct recoil spring instead. If your measurement of the collapsed spring is less than 1.6" (taken when the slide is at full rearward movement) you may have a spring that is actually stacked solid and not performing as a recoil spring should. (Bullseye correct ...

Air Pistols

I wholeheartedly agree with DancesWithSquirrels. I purchased my IZH over 7 years ago. They are scary accurate. If there is a group larger than 1/8" at 33 feet, it wasn't the gun. I shot mine with the trigger as low as 4 oz with no creep and no aftertravel. Best score was a 564 out of 600. I used it ...

m41 & HV ammo

If you want to shoot high velocity ammo through your 41 I would suggest you install a heavier recoil spring.
Check out Wolf springs. I run a heavier spring in one of my High Standards for just this reason.

Les Baer

Greener,
With either a Les Baer or Rock River (NOT ROCK ISLAND) bullseye gun, any shot out of the 1 1/2" x ring at 50 yards will be the shooter or the ammo, not the gun. Either of those 2 could be taken to the line at Camp Perry and WIN.

New Wheel weights

bearandoldman, Keep in mind the wheelweights I cast with were over 15 years old. I have heard that the newer ones have a high Arsnic % mixed in with the lead. It doesn't do any harm when used as wheelweights, but, it makes a bullet lead your bore so much that you're shooting a smoothbore within a do...

1911

bearandoldman is right on the money. The Springfield Milspec's are some of the tightest inexpensive 1911's on the market. I work part time in a local gun store. Last summer they had about a dozen Springfield Milspec's in stock. I examined them and found 5 of them to be the tightest factory fitted 19...

The Black Art

"The Black Art" I term bullet casting such because it seems that way at times, I am not the first to refer to casting as such. "how you hardness test your cast bullets"--When I first started casting I took advantage of a friends Saeco bullet hardness tester, so bear in mind I'm quoting from memory. ...

Casting

SKnight, I started casting about 9 years ago when I couldn't find any decent quality bullets locally. I had the option of ordering good stuff: IE-Lazer cast or Star, but decided to give the black art a try. I probably cast 7-10,000 rounds for the 45, 1.000 for the 41 mag, and 1,000 for the 38 per ye...

6 7/8 Ruger for BE

I've done a lot of Ransom testing with a variety of Rugers. I've found the 5 1/2" to average slightly better accuracy at 50 yards than the 6 7/8" tapered and slab sides. Granted, I've only Ransomed 3- 6 7/8" Rugers, but I have Ransomed 6- 5 1/2" and have found them to be about 1/2-1" better with tar...
