1953 Standard

I have posted this on another site, so if you've seen it, it's still the one. The answers were confusing, so I thought I'd try here for an answer. I have a '53 4 3/4 barrel "standard," that is marked "Ruger Automatic Pistol." there are no other markings on it except address, etc. Is this considered ...

I think that's the source of all the dislike. Some guys/gals like to take their guns apart and fiddle around with them. From what I've gathered, the mag disconnect safety makes it hard to R&R. Since taking the MK III is harder than most to dismantle, I usually don't tinker with it like I would on a ...

Seems to be like buying a new car and then removing the Air Bags and cutting the seat belts off. Whatever you guys do is OK by me. I like mine just the way it is. TJ

One thing I've noticed is that there seems to be a lot of hate for the MK III. Mainly because of the safety features put on there, i.e. the mag disconnect, the LCI, and to some, the mag release. I like these features. The old P.08 Luger had an LCI. Many old Colt's, the M1903/08 had a mag disconnect ...

Like I said before, I just like the feel of wood and steel. (That's an unintended Rhyme!) Thanks for the input, Big Dave. TJ

Steel is an alloy made by combining iron and other elements, the most common of these being carbon. When carbon is used, its content in the steel is between 0.2% and 2.1% by weight, depending on the grade. Other alloying elements sometimes used are manganese, chromium, vanadium and tungsten. from: ...

I've never been too excited about hyper velocity .22's. Fired some stingers and wasn't happy with feeding or target results. How many rounds of these do you have to fire to see the pistol damage. A MKIII Standard is a good way to return to .22 pistols. I'd have serious withdrawal without one. My wi...

Thanks fellows. I hadn't heard the term "steel alloy," so I was thrown a bit on that. They could have easily just said "Steel." But, hey, that's just me. I'll avoid the hyper stuff and stick to my CCI mini mags as per your helpful suggestions. Thanks for your time. TJ

My new MK III Standard

After finding myself without a .22 pistol, I went and got a MK III Standard in blue. A couple of questions. I noticed that it was made of "Steel Alloy." Not familiar with that. It's magnetic, so what's the "alloy?" Also, will it take Stingers, or is that too much for the springs and I should just st...

I think we suffered some "thread drift," but that's ok. Junior, I just bought a Ruger SP101 in .357 mag, and I love it. I've never been keen on .357 out of any size barrels, unless it comes with wheels. The recoil and the back blast and splatter just take the fun out of it for me. Thirty-eights on t...

Well, I absolutely love it. It is a bit on the heavy side but not too bad. I took your advice, Baldy, and haven't regretted it. Wonderful little gun. I feel safe. Thanks for all your good input. TJ

Ruger SP101

As I was I riding my electric scooter, the thought came to me that I was no longer a strapping man, able to take care of himself. I had become a weaker member of the herd, the kind predators seek out. So I picked up a Ruger SP101, 5 shot, with a 2 1/4"barrel. Fit right into my jean's pocket and wasn'...

Looks like a re built 1911, along with 1911A1 parts as Bullseye noted. What is odd is there aren't any inspector initials and no armory stamp for the re build. Sorry, didn't see the inspectors initials at first, but now I do in the close up. I'd take it. It'd be a good shooter. :D :D TJ

If you are looking at a .380 you might want to take a look at the CZ83. I have the nickel .380 and it has been fool proof. It's easy to take down and clean and I haven't found anything it won't eat including several different reloads. It's typical CZ quality at a reasonable price. Oddly enough, tha...
