CCI SV assembled by Federal?
There have been several discussions on a different board about the CCI SV paper box (50rd) ammo being assembled either by CCI or Federal. The general opinion being that if the lot number began with a letter the ammo was assembled at the CCI plant and if it began with a number then the ammo was assembled at a Federal plant. Anyone ever see any documentation from either CCI or Federal indicating this to be true?

I'm not sure what fed ammo you are referring to, but, I think CCI is a cut above. I have two 22lr pistols that "only" shoot CCI sv or hv ammo reliably. Granted, Fed is almost as reliable, but not quite. My Sig mosquito and Beretta Bobcat both shoot flawlessly with CCI, but with Fed, they seem to get picky. Mostly failures to eject.

Several reports that CCI SV in the 50rd paper box packaging may have actually been assembled by Federal even though the packaging would have you believe it is a CCI product. The story is that if the lot number begins with a letter the ammo was in fact assembled by CCI. However, if it begins with a number then the ammo was assembled by Federal. This applies only to the 50rd paper box packaging. The 100rd plastic box packaging is all CCI assembly. Kind of makes sense in a weird way... why would there be 2 separate lot number sequences... those beginning with a letter and those beginning with a number. As far as I know there is only one CCI plant so why 2 separate lot number sequences. Sent off an e-mail to CCI earlier this evening asking about it... will be interesting to see what their reply might be.

I am curious as well, since I just received a case of CCI SV ammo in the paper boxes:

I'll have to check out the # on my boxes. Now you have me wondering how this stuff is going to shoot?

Supposedly both the paper boxed and the plastic boxed cartridges are the same... only the packaging is different.
I received a reply to my e-mail that I'd sent to CCI asking about it. Guess what.... it's true. If the lot number begins with a letter then it was manufactured by CCI, if it begins with a number then it was put together by Federal and put into CCI boxes.
Here's their reply:
Thank you for your email.
A couple of years ago (estimate) Federal Cartridge was manufacturing
some of the CCI 22 LRSV paper packed product (Part 0035) but just for a
period of time. At that time, Federal lot numbers did start with a
number. Note: Another (easier) method to tell the difference between
Federal mfg. product and CCI (Lewiston) is that Federal packages their
product with a white plastic cartridge carrier that has legs. CCI uses a
clear plastic cartridge carrier with no legs.
"Currently" CCI (here Lewiston, Idaho) is manufacturing both the CCI 22
LRSV paper product (Part 0035) and the plastic packed (Part 0032).

That's good info 'ster, thanks for sharing it. I went downstairs and checked mine and used the white/clear plastic method. Mine are clear plastic with no legs. I am a little confused as to what # to check as well. Nonetheless, mine were manf'd by CCI, which is what I would prefer if i had the choice.
thanks again, haka

A long time back, Greener and I had a discussion about the #0032 and the #0035 packaged CCI-SV. The two production numbers had obviously been from different lots even though they were both the SV brand of ammo. At that time he had gotten some great prices on some of the CCI-SV in case lots but they were the paper boxed #0035 and I wanted the plastic cased #0032.
On the paper boxes you can see the stamped lot numbers easier if you place a plain piece of paper over the number and do a rubbing with the side of a pencil lead.
The "L" in the lot # stands for the Lewiston plant.
