Which five?

If you woke up tomorrow, and found you only had five guns, and could never have any more, which ones would you want them to be? This is one of those "stuck on a desert island" type questions.

I only own five right now, but the "could never have any more" would change my list a lot:

1. Ruger Single-Six stainless
2. Ruger 77/22 stainless with polymer stock
3. Ruger Security Six .357 stainless with 4 inch barrel
4. Ruger 77 Hawkeye All-Weather in .308
5. Walther PPK .32 ACP stainless

The first four, I considered this as a SHTF situation. You gotta have a .22, and a SA revolver or bolt action rifle are the most simple and durable. A 4 inch .357 DA/SA revolver is the classic all-purpose handgun, and a bolt action .308 would get some votes as an all-purpose rifle.

Number five breaks my Ruger loyalty, and is on here just because I've always thought the PPK was the Rolls-Royce of pistols. It's next on my real list, if my budget ever looks good for it. Being all practical, my number five would have been a pump 12 gauge.

Assuming unlimited ammo availability....

1) Calico Liberty 100 in 9MM
2) Saiga IZ-09 in 12ga.
3) Barrett Model 95 in 50cal.
4) Metal Storm Firestorm
5) Ruger KMK-10 in 22cal, with removable shoulder stock.

1911 in .45ACP
Any .308 cal long bolt rifle (Model 70, etc)
Any 9mm handgun (BHP, Glock, etc)
12 Ga pump shotgun (Mossy 500, etc)

By using common calibers in my choices I can scavenge ammo from a variety of sources, if necessary. An AR in .223 could substitute for the bolt rifle.

Since I am limited in the number of firearms, I would value versatility above all other considerations. - I feel that these choices would return the most versatility and satisfy the most of my needs from only five firearms.

Others may prefer a .45 automatic over a 10mm, but I am not recoil sensitive and would want to hunt with my auto-loader, in addition to self-defense, target shooting etc..

All of these are attractive weapons, as much fun to handle and admire as they are to shoot, with the exception of the Mossberg 500. I admire the looks and handling qualities of the Browning BPS over the Mossberg any time, but the Browning cannot match the Mossberg's versatility. ( Aftermarket options )

The Mauser M03 Stutzen is convertible from full stock to half-stock, and can switch between magnum and non-magnum cartridges with its switchable bolt-head and barrel system. I admit that it is is expensive, but you get more than what you pay for in this case.

The Sako Quad Varmint and the T/C G2 Contender are self-explanatory.

These serve me pretty well, between me and my kids, the .30-30 has taken more deer than I can remember.

I'd like to add a 1911 colt .45ACP to the mix but the one I want is close to what my car's worth... LOL

Of course!......... I'm glad to see some response here. It gets you to think about which guns you LIKE and why, versus which guns you might NEED and why. The lists don't often match. The "likes" would easily double my current ownership, then the needs would change most of that.

Ylee fox, you are the only one so far that has mentioned the AR-15 ? I have only had mine a couple months now, and it definitely would make the group for me. It's hard to beat the semi auto rifle that can hold 30 rounds, that could just about stop anything threatening.

For us shooters, this was a tough question. Of course, it was just for fun, but it did get me thinking about what I would choose if I could only have 5 and I love shooting the AR-15 (I just seldom do shoot it, see mountain of ammo comment as too why). This question also made me wonder what the responses would be like, if the question had been; what if you could have only one firearm.
