My son and I finally got away to give the modified magazine a thorough test. We fired 250 rounds or so of several different brands of ammunition through the modified clip, and got only one stovepipe jam - from some Winchester T22 target ammo. The T22 stuff is low powered and unplated. Normally I only fire it in my TC Contender.
With Winchster bulk packaged hollowpoints and Remington hp game rounds, the Mk III operated flawlessly.
When we used the other, unmodified magazine it went right back to producing stovepipe jams.
So - it looks like modifying the magazine has worked for this particular gun. Now I will have my son modify the other magazine for drill, and I will return to my other ongoing project, installing and adjusting a double-set trigger for my 98 Mauser.
I'd like to thank everyone again for the well wishes and shared knowledge, without which I would still be frustrated, wondering why my pistol keeps jamming. - Now it's a real barrel of fun to go shooting with, both accurate and reliable.

I can tell you that this modification works great. I have a new Mark III, which is a great gun and really fun to shoot, but I couldn't shoot a 10 round clip without at least 1 or 2 stovepipe jambs. Very frustrating. I took a file to the mag and rounded the top as this thread suggested and I have put at least 1,500 rounds thru it with out a single jamb. I really couldn't believe it. I am suprised that Ruger hasn't addressed this problem or at least modified the clip.blue68f100 wrote:Here is the link for the magazine tweek. This does help on feeding problems but not so much on stove pipes.

I can't thank you enough for solving my problem and allowing me to have a great gun that now I can put hundreds of rounds thru without a single jamb.
