fixed sight needs drifted

Post by recoil » Thu Oct 28, 2010 2:27 am

Hi, I am needing to drift my rear fixed sight on my mk3 22/45 slab side, and was wondering if I could use a dowel rod or ?
I don't have many tools. I think I will have to have a vice or something to hold it also, or is there another way?
Just don't want to bugger up a new gun.
It has always shot to the right for me and everyone else and while cleaning I noticed the sight was to the right some.
Now if I can get it centered, I think I will be in bussiness!
Thank's guys!!

The best way to drift a fixed sight is with a brass punch and heavy hammer. A hardwood dowel may work but is prone to splitting by the small surface area of the rear fixed sight. You will also need a solid vise to hold the receiver securely while tapping the sight to the left in the dovetail slot. A couple of pieces of hardwood will fit the bill as protection for the receiver from marring by the vise jaws.
