Xpert22

I hadn't shot Win Xpert22 for over a year and vaguely remembered that I had had trouble with it. On a whim I bought a box and took it to the range. I ended up cleaning pistols and magazines when I came home.

I started it with my Walther P22. The Walther would, I thought, shoot anything although I'm never sure where anything goes. Rounds 2-6 wouldn't feed when the action cycled, but would feed if I manually pulled the slide back and let go. Switched to Federal (Wally world) bulk and every round stovepiped. No problems with my CCI SV (cheap stuff, not the good stuff).

When I started shooting it in my MKIII Hunter, I started to have a very few stovepipes and had a great deal of trouble getting the magazine to drop. It was actually stuck a couple of times. The MKIII shot everything else well.

Figured I'd try it in my Buck Mark Standard since I was going to have a cleaning party when I got home. No problems of any kind.

I was amazed at how fast the Xpert22 interfered with the action of the pistol. Well, at least I got a bunch of clean .22's and mags out of the experience.

I'm new to Ruger .22s [ MKIII] but have several .22 rifles and a S&W 46 that I infrequently clean and have had no problems. I was taught many years ago that one cleans a .22 only when it [basically] starts to malfunction. Are Ruger pistols that finicky that they require cleaning after every outing to the range ?

I do not clean mine until they start to malfunction. Some people have their own preferences but the Rugers will keep running for thousands of rounds before they start acting up.

Got to agree with Bullseye therr too, I only clena my Ruger rifles and pistols when the begin to not work as they should. I am an old believer tht if it ainn't broke it don't need fixing.
You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

My Saturday night cleaning party was because after a few rounds of Xpert22 my pistols started malfunctioning. The ammo left enough residue in the mags that they didn't want to function and I did a thorough cleaning of the pistols.

I also clean my rimfires periodically. The frequency is around 400 rounds or about 3 weeks. I figure that a little PM every now and then can't hurt. Until my experience with the Xpert22, I had only had a very few FTF's, no jams or stovepipes in months. I'd rather do a bit of cleaning rather than wait for it to start failing. It's probably overkill, but it's like checking the air filter on the car before it plugs or changing the engine oil before it seizes.
