Thank you Bullseye
First of all I want to thank Bullseye for the fantastic free information he provides to everyone. I went looking for my first .22 and I ended up with the Ruger MarkIII with a 6 and 7/8 inch fluted barrel Hunter model. On the first day I shot about 300 rounds of CCI minimags, Fed. American Eagle JHP hi vel. and Fed AutoMatch LRN standard vel. I had no FTF or FTE, one misfire I don't know what caused it but I'm not concerned about it. I am not crazy about the fiber optics sights but I can live with them or I can change them, which is easy to do. Or I can put a red dot on it since it comes with a scope mount. I wanted a MK2 and the gun store had 2 new ones but I checked these guns and in both of them the top of the magazine was touching the ejector; this means (according to Bullseye) there could be ejection problems with the gun. I did not want to risk it.
First problem started when: While shooting PMC .22 lr Zapper HV ammo in my new Ruger MKIII the plastic part of the loaded chamber indicator blew out of the gun because the primer blew on one or more of the rounds. The gun continued to function. I noticed it later. Can I still shoot the gun without the LCI? I did notice some sparks coming out of the slot. Can the slot be filled with something that looks better than the LCI? I really don't like that indicator. There is no reason for it on a target gun. I called Ruger and they said the the gun can still be shot without the LCI but they are sending me new LCI. BTW I already posted this info on another forum but I wanted to post this here as well for expert adice. Thanks again.
PS: So far the best ammo I shot out of this gun is Federal AutoMatch, absolutely reliable and super accurate but I can't find it anywhere. If anyone knows where to get more of this stuff please post a link.

Yes you can shoot it without the LCI in the gun.
I buy the Federal Automatch at my local WalMart, but they don't always have it in stock but my local gun shop carries it to.
I have a MKIII upper on a MKII lower and shoot it without the LCI. I have shot it at night and no flame or sparks come out of the LCI opening.
If I were you I would not shoot anymore of the PMC Zapper ammo.
For just all around plinking ammo I like the 550 round bulk pack of Federal that WalMart sells. $9.88 for 550 rounds is cheap ammo that shoots pretty good.

Welcome to this great forum.
Fed Auto Match can be purchased at several vendors including MidwayUSA and local gun shops.
One nice thing about the surroundings here is there's little or no political bashing or references....just good shooting exchanges.
Also, Wally World site determinatons aren't a function of the Senate.

Welcome to the forum!
As you already know the pistol can be shot without an LCI installed. I took mine out initially until Ruger modified them to a two piece design. Here's the good news - when you get your new one you can install the plastic lever and leave off the spring loaded metal tab. Without the tab the LCI plastic lever is just a filler for the slot, it will not function.
In the future, one can modify the Mark II magazine catch to lower the feed lips of the magazine. A few minutes with a metal file is all you need.
Another brand of ammo that seems to universally work well in Ruger 22 Autopistols is Winchester Dynapoints. These can usually be found in 500 round bulk packs a KMart. Don't confuse this ammo with the Win Powerpoints. Powerpoints are hollow point bullets and the Dynapoints are round nose with a small dimple in the tip of the nose. CCI Standard Velocity also know as CCCI SV seems to work very well too.
While you were talking with Ruger you may have mentioned that you weren't fond of the fiber optic sights. They could have sent you a regular front sight post and a standard slotted rear blade.
Hopefully you've already given your new gun a thorough cleaning to get out all that shipping preservative.
Hope this helps.

Thanks again Bullseye. Thanks to your great web site I had absolutely no problem disassembling and reassembling the gun and I do it every time I shoot the gun. I spray the whole thing down with WD40. WD40 is not a good lubricant and or preservative but it's a good cleaner. I tried CCI standard vel. good stuff but pricey. I'll try Winchester next. I also tried American Eagle Hi vel. it worked Ok but after 100 to 200 round I was getting FTE. I cleaned the gun, switched to Fed automatch and had no problems until I ran out of Fed automatch and realized that no one has this stuff online. Like I said before, Kmart and Walmart don't sell ammo in my area, the closest Walmart in my area is about 50 miles away.
The price of Fed Auto Match has been steadily climbing over the past 18 months. It was priced under 10.00 for the 325 bulk pack originally but like everything else over the recent past, it too is skyrocketed in price.
The WW price is currently $11.57 but I'm told it's only in a holding pattern and soon will resume it's climb.
Wim DynaPoints were also a popular favorite. It would often be priced under 10.00 /500 rd brick from it's 11.00 regular price. Now it comes in at as much as 27.00 /brick. Yep, the thrill is gone!
In years past one could easily justify a round trip of 100 miles to secure a favorite fodder but those days are gone as well.
Today's economic instability, the falling dollar and just plain social anxiety are certainly taking their toll on all of us.

I've had good results with the CCI 40gr lrn standard velocity (blue and silver cardboard box) and the federal twin. Almost no FTF's, feed problems, etc. The ammo shoots consistently and runs $13-$16/brick. My Rugers do reasonably well with the federal bulk 36gr hp, although I get a few high poi's with this ammo.
I agree greener! Anything CCI has always been good in my guns. The Fed Bulk stuff is far and away the best plinking ammo I've found. It performs very well in my MKII and 1022's....and it's still a comparative bargain.
I recently "came into" a case of Aquila Golden Eagle Target ammo which I'm anxious to try.
I just make sure I avoid any/all Remington .22 ammo.

Congrats on the new Ruger!
My 22/45 really liked the Fed 550 bulks. I was at a plate match last night and a guy asked: "Who's shooting the Federals?" I told him I was. He said his Ruger didn't like them, so I bought two boxes off him for $10. I thought Wal-Mart has good prices, but apparently, I should visit the plate matches more often.
