Best cleaning technique?

Having only field-stripped and cleaned my new MKIII Hunter twice thus far, I have a few questions about the best methods you folks might use when cleaning your .22lr pistols. So far, I've just sprayed-down the barrel with BreakFree Powder Blast and run a BoreSnake through, then put a few drops of Hoppe's oil down the barrel & pulled the snake through again. Having read about soft metals on .22's, I was curious if the snake bristles may cause damage after repeated uses? Do I need to use only nylon brushes on my stainless Hunter? As for the bottom half, I've just sprayed the powder blast all over everything & only applied oil on the hammer. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks all!!!!

I try to use a nylon brush as much as I can with the mild steel of the 22 barrel. On also has to be careful if using a metal rod to not scrape it against the inside of the barrel. Using a bore snake reduces the chance of wearing the barrel excessively with a cleaning rod. The copper bristles can abrade the inside of the barrel but it would take a lot of use to make a big difference. And no matter how much I use the nylon brush through the barrel I still have to use a copper one inside the chamber from time to time to scrub out the powder residue build up. Break free is OK but I find that a good solvent like Hoppes #9 does a much better job during a cleaning.

1. field strip
2. blow it out with an 'air hose'
(don't have one? tell the "wife" you were told to get one... --grin )
3. BE SURE to re-oil it... most AirTanks slobber a lot
( the moisture compresses out under pressure )
4. the bore... I use a Qtip inserted from each end.
one with powder-solvent, then a second with some GunOil
5. apply a little GunGrease to the bolt-surface to help the
metal-to-metal surfaces "mate"
I use the basic Hoppe's Solvent+Oil+Grease (orange-box)

Since stainless is harder than carbon steel, what are the thoughts on cleaning with a brass brush on stainless barrels only? I want the gun clean but certainly don't want unnecessary wear from cleaning.

You should be fine with the bronze brush in a stainless barrel as long as you're careful with the cleaning rod.
