MKIII - Extractor Break

Lost:
1 VQ Extractor
1 Ruger Extractor

Installed revised magazine catch from Ruger. Lowers magazine to eliminate lead shavings due to hitting top of chamber.
Broke the VQ Extractor at about 300 rounds. Broke the Ruger Extractor at about 200 rounds. Finished both sessions with just a few jams due to case left in chamber.

Ruger is sending me a extractor. I agreed to stay away from Remington Goldens (just received a case of SuperX). Ruger had not heard of the issue. If the ammo change doesn't help I will have to sent it in for repair.

BTW: I had run over 6,000 rounds of Golden through weapon with the original magazine catch. I was living with a lot of lead spatter and did have to clean to perfection every brick.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the recoil spring assembly is not absorbing the blowback energy properly. You're not shooting Hyper velocity ammo are you? Do you see any evidence of battering on the front side of the bolt stop pin?

No hyper ammo. All Remington Golden except for two bricks of Blazer (dirty ammo - really gunked up the insides of four magazines). Plus 100 each rounds of CCI mini-mag and SuperX.

The only variable introduced was the revised Ruger Magazine Catch.

Ruger was amazed that I had shot so much of the Remington Golden with out problems. I really clean the weapon after about a brick.

BTW: I don't believe that Goldens misfire much. Dirty chambers absorb a lot of the fireing pin impact.
