I need to know is there any difference in the extractor's between a Ruger MK_III and a .22/45? I don't believe there is, but I need to know.

As far as I know, the same aftermarket extractor fits in the mkII/III and 22/45 variants, and the 10/22 rifle too (although with a different spring)

I checked Ruger's website, (you can bring up all the owner's manuals) and they show the extractor part number is the same for all 22/45's and the Mark III. The part number is KA02200.

Like Dave said the same extractor is used for all Ruger 22 Auto pistols and the 10/22 rifle. The only caution is if you get one marked for use in the 10/22 do not use the plunger spring in the VQ extractor kit. The spring for the 10/22 is a heavier weight. The package should be marked for this but every once and a while one isn't.

So if a person had an extra extractor for a 10-22 made by Kidd it would also work? Just use the Mark II/III spring?

Yes. Just do a side-by-side comparison with the old one and you'll see they're the same. Use the same plunger spring from your bolt and you are all set.

Yes Sir the spring is the difference. I like to keep a few spare parts on hand for these bottom feeders. They are the key to keeping them going in my book.

I have a zip lock quart size freezer bag for each type of gun I own, full of the likely (3-4) and unlikely (1-2) parts I'll ever need. I keep 'em locked up. too!

Now if I can just separate the extractor from the plunger.

I have seen the how to pics here and on RFC, just having real issue with separation, even after removing the firing pin.

Sometimes I have to wrestle with those extractors a little too. I use a scribe and a flat bladed jeweler's screwdriver to get in between the plunger and the back side of the extractor hook. The whole process doesn't take more than a few minutes to change.

I find that if you lift up on the extractor it moves the plunger back so you can get a pick in where the hole in enlarged.

That's a good tip I'll have to try.

I posted this before & just copied & pasted it here for you..

I've done several MKII & 10/22 Extractor Changes & came up with the idea to push the plunger in from the front with a paper clip & then with a small hook to pull the extractor out of the slot.
I made the plunger pusher from a tiny drill bit that I have in a pin vise to get a good hold on it..
The Hook is a bent & cut paper clip, The plunger pusher could also be a small paper clip.
Another great tool for the Ruger pistol is a bobby pin to unlatch the mainspring housing.
Also after removing the extractor clean the bolt & it's holes with solvent then a Q-Tip with some of the cotton removed so it fits the holes tightly.
You'll never get the chance to clean in here again so get it spotless & never use any lube of any kind..
The extractors plunger won't move to the rear far enough untill the firing pin stop pin is removed or moved to the left.
You might as well clean the Firing pin channel + the pin & return spring & it's holder while your in there..
I took these pics while putting a Volquartzen Exact Edge Extractor in my MKII..
It was hard to hold the bolt, compress the plunger & pull the extractor out while having a hand to work the camera too.
