Is Sam Lee still selling hammer bushings? Anyone have any first hand experience in Sams vs Clarks bushing? Couldn't you just silver solder or JB Weld your OEM bushing into the hammer and get the same results?

Sam's bushing is designed to remove the magazine safety, it is not an oversized bushing like the Clark.

Thanks for the information. All I have are MKII pistols so I would have to go either the Clark or Volquartson route. Or is the Volquartson bushing just designed to eliminate the Mag safety also?

I have a Volquartsen in my Mark III. It is identical to the factory Mark II bushing, with a black oxide finish.

Clark's is what you want to improve the action.

I thought Sam was making oversize on request. I know he now offers the larger OD flange to match the Clark.

Contact him, I think it will make one to your spec. So if you have a oversize bushing bore in you hammer he can make one to fit .

Contact him its not too difficult to make but its best if he has some dimensions from your gun I would think.

I sent him an email at an email address I found on one of the topics about hammer bushing on this forum. I don't know if is current because the post was 3 years old. I don't have a set of pin gauges to get an accurate measurement of the hammer bore. I have dial calipers but have never found them to be to accurate in measuring an ID on a small hole. What do you suggest for measuring this ?

Sam used one of my original drawings for the Magsafe eliminator bushing, with my permission, to create the bushings he sells. I used a dial caliper to measure the inner diameter of the hammer hole and also used it for measuring the outer diameter of several factory hammer bushings. I don't know what kind of metal working capabilities you have but you could get the bushing a few thousandths over and work it down to a nice clean fit.

Do you have any thoughts on my idea of either Silver Soldering or JB Weld epoxying the bushing into the hammer? Has this been done before with good or bad results? I do have a drill press I might be able to chuck the bushing in and sand it down to size. I don't know if my message ever made it to Sam. Any current contact information. I tried looking up Sam Lee in the member list and didn't see his name.

I would not use any method that involves heat. You only need to get in the 500+F range to impact tempering. I used loctite on one that was close but not tight. So far it has held up. I do not see any reason why JB Weld would not work, but they way it holds you may not ever get it out if needed.

Sam can take several days to reply.

I also blue loctited my MKII bushing into the hammer & it really helped & has held up so far with about 3000 rounds since I did it..
Also mine wasn't loose but wasn't tight either & was installed into a Volquartzen hammer, The bushing was the factory MKII bushing in a MKII..
I cleaned both pieces with acetone & Q-Tips & squeezed some inside the hammer & some on the OD of the bushing & cleaned up any squeeze out..
JB Weld could work as well..
