Taurus 94

I picked up a 2" Taurus 94 (22lr, 9 shot) revolver a week or so ago. Today was the first time I've managed to take it to the range.


Fit & Feel: Overall it's comfortable to hold. Easy to acquire the sites. and no problems carrying, aiming, shooting.

Finish: No problems that I've found.

Trigger: SA is fairly good. DA is very heavy. Made the trigger on my 442 feel light.

Out of the box it came with the adjustable rear sight all the way down, so my first few rounds were 6" low at 15 yards. I had no problems with adjustment. I had 2-3 failures to fire out of ~90 rounds. All were with Federal value pack.

My last target was all DA at the end of the day. Between my shooting and the heavy trigger, there was a bit of scatter, with a low-left tendency from fighting the trigger. This will probably be the first revolver I try lighter springs on.

Put 100-150 rounds through it this weekend. The DA trigger felt better and I was tighter on groups at 15 yards.

Can't find an 11 lb spring set like they use in the small frame centerfire revolvers, so I ordered a Wolf 9# set. We'll see if that's too light for consistent primer ignition.

Wolf springs arrived. Removed all the firing parts, cleaned them and did a smidge of polishing. Replaced the hammer spring with a 9# spring and the trigger spring with a 6.5# spring. Getting the trigger, hand and transfer bar back in was quite an effort. Very nice DA trigger pull but I may be getting light strikes. Will find out this weekend.

Unfortunately that sometimes is the result when you install the reduced power springs in a revolver. Hopefully you do not get light strikes.

I tried out the 9# spring today. Typically could fire 7 of 9 DA and 8-9 or 9 SA. Great trigger pull for a revolver but too many light strikes. All the rounds that didn't fire could be put back in the revolver and fired. Looks like I try to find the a 10-11# spring or put the original back in.

The 15 yard range was filled so I did my test firing at 25 yards. Put the rounds in about an 8" group. OK for me.

I picked up a used, but very good shape 94 at the gun show this past Saturday and couldn't be more pleased thus far. I went in looking specifically for a DA .22 revolver and would have loved to come home with a S&W--and I might some day, but I got the Taurus for exactly HALF of what the best "used" price was for a similar Smith.

It's accurate, fun and the DA isn't bad at all. I've seen muchos grumblings on various gun boards regarding that. My wife wanted something that (at least somewhat) mimics the revolver/DA action of the 642 she has for SD. I will change the wood grips to a similar Hogue-style to help some. Also, I will start my son and daughter out with this little jewel as well. It's gonna make a nice little woods gun for me. I would be way too cheap to carry an expensive S&W 317 through the briars.

I think it is a pretty good revolver. A bit heavy on the trigger, but I should be able to overcome that. I've had a bit of a problem with Winchester ammo, but it shoots Federal well.

I have an 8" model 17 that is a "better" revolver than the Taurus. However, I was looking for a snubbie .22 and the Taurus fills the bill at a very reasonable price.

I've been inside a few Taurus Revolvers & for the money they are a fine piece..
Don't try an compare them to a Smith & Wesson as they will always fall a little short of their smoother action..
On the 22 you will more than likely have to use the full power mainspring but can use the lighter weight return spring..
I likes the looks of the little snubbie 22 greener.

I'm pretty satisfied with the 94. If I could drop a few pounds off the hammer spring, I'd like it better.
