"Point Shooting"

Post by Hakaman » Fri Apr 22, 2011 1:43 pm

I just got back from the range, and I shot my Beretta Bobcat 22 pistol. It was not
made for target shooting competition, especially when the shooter fires @ "rapid fire" pace.
My goal was to see the results of shooting two different methods: using the gun sights for aiming,
and the "point shoot" method. I have feeling that the point shoot method would be used
more times then people think in SD situations. After missing the target initially, I was surprised
how well I could hit the black using the PS method. The photo below shows the results:

I have found over the years that if a gun fits you right, proper grip angle, point shooting is quite easy. Ir should be as easy as pointing your finger. But if the angle is off it takes a lot of practice to learn to compensate. For SD I think PS is used 90% of the time if not more. For close distance 3-7 yrds point shooting should be regularly practiced just like shooting with the support hand.

btw. Nice shooting

Thanks for sharing, Haka. I agree that most SD situations that civilians may get into are going to be very close up, and point shooting or flash sighting are better options than trying to quickly line up both sights.
