After contemplating a little further, I figured a piece of extractor must be still in the bolt, sure enough, the following photo shows that being the case. The punch is pointing to the piece of the broken extractor that was still in the bolt. I was able to get it free and the plunger shot out at approx 1260fps. Fortunately, it was caught by a magnet I had luckily setting in the right spot. Question is: "Based on the parts visible, is it just an extractor I need to purchase?

That's all it looks like to me. Get the VQ and don't look back.....

Yes, that little piece of extractor remaining in the bolt saved you from needing any other parts. If the whole thing had come out then you would be looking at a plunger and possibly a spring too. All you need is an extractor. As previously mentioned get a VQ Exact Edge extractor.

I have one on order, in fact, I ordered the Volquartsen Bolt Tune-Up Kit from
Shooters Discount Inc. I have never heard of these guys before but they have

I got my Ruger Mlll back in service last night with a new Volquartsen extractor firing pin. She's on her way to the range, along with my new Buckmark for some 22lr action.

So! What's the verdict?

My Ruger Mlll is back up and working very well. It was an easy fix thanks to
the "detailed strip" info BE has made. Between the Ruger and the Buckmark,
they both are great shooters. I think the Buckmark might have a slight edge
with triggers right out of the box. Although, with the many after market upgrades
that are available for Rugers, it can be modified to be one of the best shooters out there
in it's price range. Both guns perform to the point where I would recommend either for a potential
22lr pistol buyer. I'm glad I have both, they are both great. The Buckmark has shot flawlessly cycling
up ammo without any problems. It feels great in the hand with the Ultragrip RX ambidextrous grips, great target
sights (I feel nicer stock sights then Ruger "V" rear sight), and the easy mounting scope base is great too. Great day at the range.
It would be a flip of the coin as to which one to buy?

This is not a Ruger website, nor would I ever be offended if anyone's choices are other than Ruger. The logo at the top of the page is not a Ruger pistol.

One of the reasons why I focused on the Ruger Auto Pistol models was the long history of gripes by Ruger owners about how hard it was to maintain and reassemble. Ruger's owners manuals were terrible and that was why I created the help pages. They have since updated the manuals to include more information as to how to disassemble the pistols for cleaning and maintenance and made them more user friendly.

Please don't anyone parse their opinions on the thought that you might offend me - I do not do business that way. I may host and administer this forum, but it is here for all of you - therefore I consider it is just as much your forum as it is mine.

Thanks BE, I understand better now. Actually, I was just having a little fun, and
would have a hard time picking between the two. They both shoot well, and I
think it's a matter of personal preference.
