2nd Sentinel

Post by ruger22 » Sun Oct 05, 2014 10:37 pm

Well, I dood it, got another Sentinel, this one from GunBroker. Looks to be a twin to my first one, so far as the finish wear. Described as good working order, so hopefully a twin in that respect, too.

It's the same R-107 model, and the serial is lower than the first, but both shipped in 1969. Nice that my parts, holsters and grips are good for both.

Win was $205, so the total with shipping and transfer will be exactly the same as the first one cost me OTD at a LGS. This is from a gun shop, with card payment and good shipping charge. I think I did okay.

I don't know why we buy two, or more, of guns that we like. It is nice with an old model gun that's not so easy to replace.

Link to the win page, with lots of good photos:

It definitely has a Redhawkish look about it. Looks good.

Thank you, gentlemen. Depending on weather, I hope to have a range report in the next couple of weeks. Sholud receive it by Thursday, but doubt I can make the range next weekend.

Looking at Albright's website, and Guns America listings, they seem to specialize in high-end shotguns. They do have a Mauser broomhandle for $2850! Wow. It looks a good one with shoulder stock and holster.
A 98% S&W 41 for $959. They must have a good location to get nice used inventory.

Picked it up this morning. I'm really surprised that this one is a little better than the first. Less finish wear, and the action seems a little tighter. Trigger pull, thankfully, seems the same. Both feel like the same gun.

At first, the hand was sometimes sticking out enough that the cylinder would touch it, when closing the cylinder. Flushing the area with fresh oil freed it up. It still sets out a few thousandths of an inch, but I expect that to clear itself up. It's not out enough to touch anything now.

Like the first, every chamber locks solid. I've learned that is partly due to the cylinder latch design. Tight cylinder gap, straight barrel and sights. These two guns are more alike than my two Bearcats. Yet my Bearcats are a about 130 apart on serials. These two Sentinels are over 76000 apart on serials, but they both shipped in 1969.

Supposed to be a rainy weekend, so no range. I feel sure it's going to shoot just fine, hopefully the next week.
