Older Marlin lever action rifle

Post by derree » Sun Sep 15, 2013 5:40 pm

Need some info on a recent marlin 39a lever action .22 I traded for. At first I thought it was an older model 39 because of its case-hardened receiver but it has a round barrel instead of an octagon one. The barrel is marked "39a" and the rifle has a very low serial no. of 4xx and looks to be about 80 percent condition. Can anyone provide information regarding its age and approximate value?

There should be a letter prefix on that serial number in order to properly date it. The round barrel feature started around 1961.
