the most common problem I've noticed with my firearms...
is a "loose nut" behind the buttplate...
And I thought that was only a problem that was common with us old guys.
You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

That is most likely due to the fact that you are approaching that old guy age yourself.

I young enough that I can't see old-guy-age land as long as I leave the bifocals off.

I may have to retrieve the Mossberg, since it is now fixed and shoots well.

The gun most likely will shoot well but how about the SHOOTER????

Easy for you as you are double distinguished and I am just old and extinguished.

I don't think it is totally extinguished, I see some sparks in there.

If it were the shooter, they wouldn't make all the high-dollar firearms, expensive upgrades and have all those master gunsmith's tuning the gun. That's my story and it sure beats figuring out how to point and click.

This is the first time it has been fired since before 1961

I agree Bud, that rifle shoots pretty darn well for a nearly half century closet queen! You should give that one the nickname, "Rip Van Winkle." It's a classic rifle, looks good, and shoots well, that's a gunner's trifecta in my book.

What brand of ammo did you use for your tests.

I'd be proud to uncase that one at the range and chew up some target centers with it.

Nothing fancy!!! It was Federal Value Pack ammo.
36 gr Copper clad Hollow Point.

Next week we move out to 50 and maybe 100 yds, provided these old eyes can see the target at that range

You may want to swap out that post front sight for a globe. They are a little easier on the eyes for accurate distance shooting.

Bud 33 I am not surprised at all with your M44's results, nor am I surprised it shoots the cheep stuff well, all mine do the same. Take Bullseye's advice and buy the front peeps for it from Vic Havlin (see bottom rifle's front sight). They helped me see better but if your rifle is drilled and tapped outfit it with a scope and you'll be shooting bullet hole inside the bullet hole.

I've posted this target before...the 44USd (middle rifle) with a scope. These rifles are true shooters by all sense of the word.

I shot the Mossberg 144 I "gave" my son this week. The rifle did a fine job at 50 yards with Xpert22's. It didn't like Federal Automatch. It is a very nice rifle to have in your collection. I could find only two downsides. First, I bought it for $30 at a Boy Scout Camp Auction and didn't take advantage of buying more at the same price. Second, my son won't give it back and had the audacity to check out the car when I left.
