Ruger sent me an email stating the size of thier grip screws for the Ruger RP. Hex head of 3/32 a .150-50 uns-2A and 1/4 of an inch long. Which they told me is a standard 1911 grip screw. I'm looking for one that is 1/2 of an inch long.
Like I mentioned before I called Midway and Brownell's along with a couple other places with no luck. Maybe go to a machine shop or plan B.

My local Industrial supply house (B. A. Industrial Supply 972-422-2366) has about 150 of the 6-40 x 1/2" allen cap screws, 0.05 each my cost. How many do you want me to get for you? I do not know the size of the heads but atleast they have them.
I have know Bill (owner) for over 20 yrs and he normally gives me the cheapest price on the books.
He also has carries the taps and dies for all of the odd ball size, Greenlee brand. He only carries the high quality hardware and some tools.

Nope you're right! I posted the dimensions for the grips screws of the metal framed pistols. I don't know why I did that, the topic is clearly 22/45.

So is a .150-50 uns-2A the same as a 6-40, both being standard 1911 screws by different names?
Blue68f100 has offered to pick me up some 6-40 screws at a local industrial supply house, but I don't want him to go out of his way if they aren't the same screws.
Thanks,

No it's not the same, UNS is a unified special thread with a thread pitch of 50 tpi. 6-40 is a 40 tpi thread rate. Just for an example standard scope mounting screw sizes are 6-48 tpi, so 50 is two more threads in an inch of length.

No luck on that non std thread. You may want to counter sink the holes and use the std screws that came with it.

Know anybody that has a lathe??
just thinking. Maybe cut the threads off a longer screw that has the right shank size, then re-thread the correct pitch to the length you need.

Hey guys,
blue68f100, thanks for checking on those screws for me that was really nice of you to go out of your way.
Medicine Hat, I thought about that but decided to give up on adding more weight that way. I can wait until there is a gun show, buy some thick 1911 grips and crave out the back side then pour in some lead.
Thanks again,
Mark II
