Ed's Red bore cleaner, make your own

I got it from here: http://www.recguns.com/Sources/XC1a.html
Mix equal amounts of:
Acetone
Dexron III ATF
Mineral Spirits
Kerosene

I posted this on the Rugerforum.com and it got some mixed reviews, mostly because of the Acetone.

After using it for a couple of months the Acetone has not been problematic for me. Acetone in itself is very flamable but afer being diluted down with the other ingredients the flamability is a non issue and no more than Hoppes.

It does work and it's easy and inexpensive to make. It's not only a bore cleaner, it works well as a CLP. I've had some get on plastic and wood and as long as I wipe it up right away there's no problem, but I suggest you read the do's and don'ts at the above web site.

Some of the other home brew recipes I've seen for Ed's Red usually include Lanolin in the ingredients.
