Chamfering revolver chambers?

I read of a simple way to chamfer revolver chambers, so cartridges chamber easier. Insert a tapered punch, so with a mild mallet whack, the taper peens the rear edge of the chamber slightly. Sounds reasonable.

Is this an accepted method, anyone run across it being done that way? If it's okay, is it for both centerfire and rimfire?

As a mechanical function, it would probably work. It is in effect 'cold forging' though, inducing different metal stresses, stretching, and even probably raising a "crater rim" around each chamber that could mess up headspace. Probably only a few thousands but possible. Mostly I would be concerned about the metal stresses.

Once considered doing something with my Single-Six. Had some Winchester Wildcat that was often hard to chamber, out of round cases.

I have taken a small ball of Scotchbrite, and twisted it at the back of each chamber. Seemed to help in loading any ammo.
