loosening model 41's safety.

Post by Georgezilla » Wed May 07, 2008 1:10 am

Is there a way to loosen up the 41s safety a bit? It is a bit too hard to operate.

Thanks.

Yes there is a way to loosen up the thumb safety lever. Under the left grip panel there is a spring clip and a screw holding the safety lever in place. It is pictured in this illustrated breakdown with a red circle.

One can take the spring clip off and bend it outward slightly and that will relax the clip tension a little. But be careful as the position of the lever is such that the web of your hand can activate it while shooting with only a slight amount of pressure. In this condition, the safety lever will appear deselected, but in fact is blocking the sear from moving. This was a big problem with the earlier models of M-41's, so they tightened the safety spring clip tension to prevent inadvertent safety activation and failures to fire.

Hope this helps.
