Primary SD ?

Post by Hakaman » Sat Jan 14, 2012 11:41 pm

A friend at the range today said he has a short barreled shotgun at home he uses for SD, not a rarity. I figure I know the basic reasons some would prefer the shotgun over a hg, but my question to the group here is:
Does anyone primarily use a shotgun for their home SD gun?

Sorry, not me. I use handguns.

I do know of one using a shotgun. If setup right it's easier for a novice to use. As in the news it can be quite effective. My dad always said a shotgun in more intimidating if your looking down the barrel of one.

Handguns here, the 12 is too heavy for my better half.

If I had the funds to have a dedicated home SD gun, it would be a pump 20 gauge. I think 12 is too much for an enclosed space at short range. IIRC, Mossberg's "500" series comes in a 20 style I'd like, short barrel with a pistol grip.
