CAST BULLET LOADS FOR AA SRB118
Posted: Sun Jan 05, 2014 10:09 am
I am looking for your loads that you worked up back in the day for 30-30, 308, and 30-06 using AA SRB118 Data powder with Gas Checked and plain based Cast Bullets. I was told by Accurate Arms to use their 2520 data, and I have the stuff supplied with the powder, but it doesn't cover much cast bullet use. Please look at your notes and share them. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum! I don't shoot cast rifle bullets, but I know that we have some members here who do. You should get some good recipes for your loads.

I have not shot cast in those calibers. But if your using gas checks you can load them near jacketed data. Later this after noon I will dig out my Lyman book and see what they say about that powder.

Thanks for the welcome, and I doubt that any manual will have data powder recipes. Data powder is usually military contract overruns, pulldown powder, or batches of powder that for some reason didn't come in within the spec. of what they were making.

I looked through the latest burn rate table I have and the SBR118 is not listed. Normally you can use a similar burn powder after referencing several guide to determine load range. The Accurate 2520 comes in as 120 on my 2012 burn rate chart and 96 on 2010. They added 34 more powders to the 2012 chart. You did not list the weight of the bullets your trying to use.
Unless you have a way to confirm the burn rate of the powder I would not attempt it.
Do you have any idea on what cal this powder was pulled from?
My Lyman 49th list lead bullets just need to know the weight and shape. If you have a Lyman mold the # since that is what Lyman references to with #2 alloy.
