I was never too sure.

Both Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel are referred to as Colonel. They are also sometimes very informally referred to as half colonel and full colonel
Like 1st and 2nd Looies, both are Looie3s no lesss.

Got the BSA red dot bore sighted enough to do some adjustments did acceptably well at 25 yards.

Image

The dot covered about 80% of the black at 25 yards. And I had a defective target, it did say "this is the TOP"

No problems with functioning: it loaded, fired, ejected, loaded without flaw from both mags. Didn't try rapid fire. I'm satisfied with the feel and operation. Except for some low-left I got similar reproducibility off hand and from a bag rest at 25 yards. I had a bit more scatter at 50 yards but the dot covered so much of the target I was not sure about the precision of the aim point. I need to fiddle around with sights I like better for longer ranges. Still waiting for the front sight.

I spent some time with DPMS and UTG (Leepers) by email trying to sort out the proper front sight for this rifle. The only logical place to put the front sight is on the gas block that's 0.25" lower than the rail on the receiver.

Both DPMS and Leepers were quick to respond to my questions and very clearly answered the questions I had once I learned enough to properly pose the question. Leepers web site has the sight heights clearly marked on photos. Responses were within a couple hours (if sent during business hours) of submission. I give them both excellent marks for response.

Kodak may have won the prize for shear dogged persistence. My computer and/or the scanner portion of my wireless all-in-one printer decided not to recognize each other last night. When I couldn't fix it I went onto their live chat and ended up turning my computer over to CS, for the next 5 hours and was willing to go longer, but it was very late and I had run out of anything on TV to watch. This was not a fee-based service.

I see you were shooting one of those "down under" targets. A smaller MOA dot may have produced a tighter grouping but it appears you have proven the rifle is capable of shooting clusters but your iron sights are just not where the groupings need to be on the face of the target. Once you get it all dialed in I'm sure you'll be pleased where the holes punch through the paper.

Greener, not a bad pattern for #2 lead shot and a modified choke. When using a peep or a red dot in my experience as I use a center hold not a 6 o'clock, I shoot better when I can see target around the dot or the front sight bead. Found that out when I put the peep on Henry, H had poor results because I was not sure I was centered, switched to a bigger black and shot much better.

Obviously if I can emulate shot gun patterns, that's precision shooting. Try getting the pattern right on purpose.

I need to shoot the iron sights and I'm going to play around with scopes and other sights.

Never have tried the iron sights on my 15-22, old eyes and old hands and body do not shoot irons well. Got a scope mounted on risers on the top and amazingly the damn thing shoot CCI SV at 50 yard better than I had expected, a lot better. Got a holographic mounted way forward on a 45, just like Jerry does but on the other side as I shoot South Side. It will do rapid fire great at short range, like 7 to 10 yards. Usually 25 rounds from the mg in one raggedy ho9le off hand,

Dim down the dot so you can just see it and aim though it.... You should shoot a little tighter with a less bright dot.... Brightness all the way up for fast targeting and all the way down for tighter groups.

Fast targeting is what it is for, set up 5 2 to 3 inch shoot n c targets at 7 to 10 yards and blast away from one to the other until the 25 round mag is empty. 4 mags takes care of a 100 round pretty fat.

This one doesn't have the polarized cap. Makes it subject to sun wash. The Bushnell Trophy's might be better since they have multiple reticles on them. I was doing about as well off-hand as a guy with an M&P and Eotec sight. He was putting them into 8" circles He was practicing 3 gun and was shooting a tad faster than I was.

Pretty good. I'll have to give one of my scopes a try.

Gave the 1.4" Leeper's (UTG) front sight and a new Centerpoint 4x16 scope a try today. The higher front sight adjusted in at 25 yards (left, below) quickly, as did the scope (right, below). I had some trouble seeing the front sight, just focused on the blurr.

Image

At 50 yards, it grouped well enough considering that the rest I was using were stacked 2x4 blocks.
Image

Shoots well enough to overcome some of the shooter's problems.

I'm not too sure about putting a red dot on this. Seems to do well enough with open sights that I have difficulty seeing.

Your scoped groups look good, must be them older eyes need some help? I have not tried iron sights in years, because I hate to be disappointed. What are you using for ammo, are you going to reload. Been using reloads in my .223 but I have used some Hornady 53 grain that came in a 50 box at a reasonable price and it shoots really well. Bought a carrier assembly and a die plate for my Pro 100 as I already had the dies and am using that now for my .223. Powder measure needs the double disk kit.
